Andrea Tantaros mysteriously vanishes from Fox News

A Saturday night mystery for you to ponder. Where in the world is Fox News personality Andrea Tantaros? The former regular guest on The Five and Redeye was most recently featured on Outnumbered, but as of this week seems to be off the air. Adweek has the brief and not very informative story of her sudden, though perhaps temporary exit.

Andrea Tantaros won’t be on Fox News Channel for the time being, TVNewser has learned.

“Issues have arisen regarding Andrea’s contract, and Fox News Channel has determined it best that she take some time off,” a spokesperson said, adding, “She is still under contract with the network.”

Wait a minute. “Issues” with her contract? Like… her agent forgot to sign it or something? But she’s still “under contract” and doesn’t seem to be releasing a statement to anyone. Normally this wouldn’t be much of a story because – let’s face it – people get busy, they need time off, there can be health or family issues… who knows? But after five days of radio silence and with some of the background details on the timing coming to light, it looks a bit more complicated than some simple negotiation over a raise.

The biggest red flag is that her brand new book, Tied Up in Knots: How Getting What We Wanted Made Women Miserable, was just released on Monday. Coincidentally that was the last day that she appeared on Outnumbered. The day of your book release is just about the last moment in the world when you’d suddenly choose to disappear from public view.

Timothy Whiteman at The Examiner wonders if there isn’t something more to it.

While not cited by FNC as a reason for her extended vacation, Tantaros recently claimed during a taping of Outnumbered that certain GOP Establishment-types were coming down hard on her for supporting Donald Trump; “They have been doing this. Specifically, Charles Cooke, who is a writer for National Review, he tweeted out that I should give my job to somebody else. Also, I saw a tweet, it was a meme by Kevin Williamson of National Review trying to make me seem stupid. There’s a girl talking about biorhythms, or something. So I’ve gotten my fair share as well from folks on the right and the left and in the media calling me stupid and Trump supporters as well… Exactly I should give up my job according to men in the Republican Party.”

Curiouser and curiouser, as Alice once said. (Side note: The Cable Game sees bad things brewing.) Here’s hoping that Andrea is okay.
