Hillary mocks Carson, Cruz over LGBT positions she previously held

In yet another example of why Hillary Clinton probably should hire some new staffers, we stop by a speech that she gave in Washington, D.C. today which focused on gay rights. There were some pretty good laugh lines in there if you’re part of the unquestioning Hillary faithful, but she could really use some help on her speech writing team from people who are familiar with Google and the ability to dredge up things that she said further back in time than last week.

In one part of her comments she went after Ben Carson. (ABC News)

“Ben Carson says that marriage equality is what caused the fall of the Roman empire,” the Democratic presidential candidate said to laughter during a breakfast at the LGBT rights organization’s annual gathering in Washington, D.C.

As Carson’s own campaign cleverly noted later, it might be excusable to think that Hillary can remember back to the days of the Roman Empire, but her own history in loving the gays doesn’t stretch back quite so far. In fact, when she was running for the same office in 2008 her position was decidedly different. Back then she was in favor of civil unions, stating that marriage was still something between a man and a woman. Of course, it’s understandable that people sometimes hold different beliefs when they are young and foolish. I’m sure her core beliefs evolved quite a bit between the ages of 60 and 67.

She went on to take another jovial, verbal slap at Ted Cruz.

“Ted Cruz slammed a political opponent for marching in a pride parade. He clearly has no idea what he’s missing. Pride parades are so much fun. I was marching in them back when I was first lady. You should join sometime Senator, come on,” she said.

Hillary may have been marching in Pride parades when she was First Lady back in the 90s but you really couldn’t tell how enthusiastic she was from some of her emails which have recently turned up. In one of them she complains that passport applications would be swapping the terms “mother” and “father” for “parent one” and “parent two.”

Writing to her aides, she demanded to know, “Who made the decision that State will no longer use the term ‘mother and father,’ and instead substitute ‘parent one and two’? I’m not defending that decision, which I disagree [with] and knew nothing about, in front of this Congress. We need to address this today or we will be facing a huge Fox-generated media storm led by [Sarah] Palin et al.”

Is that the sort of speech one gives to fire up the folks at a Pride parade? I’m not sure since I’ve never been asked to give one.

In any event, the lies and the hypocrisy continue unabated. The woman is absolutely shameless. If you are really working hard to win the LGBT vote I can understand wanting to reach out to them, but you should at least give Cruz credit for being consistent in his positions. Hillary, on the other hand, demonstrates yet again that she will say anything she has to, no matter how phony, in an effort to get elected. Unfortunately I doubt many folks in cable news will call her out on it.
