Millennials don't trust anyone

We’ve seen a few reports recently purporting to show that millennials are pretty much the worst people ever. (Okay… that might be a bit harsh.) All kidding aside, the trends show that, as a group, they tend to be the least likely to be involved in church or other “in person” public institutions, that they mostly communicate through social media and they’re generally less involved with their fellow man. Some groups have been trying to find new ways to reach out and engage with them on the political front, such as through the creation of the new social media app Brigade. But the more you dig through the trends that analysts are discovering about our soon to be overlords, the more nuggets you find. This study has a couple of interesting factoids, including the conclusion that millennials don’t tend to think much of either political party.

One reason millennials may not be as politically motivated is they don’t see much of a difference between Democrats and Republicans. And fewer millennials say they trust political parties…

They don’t trust either political party? Are you sure these kids lean liberal or libertarian? From what I can tell they would be a perfect fit for the Hot Air comments section with an attitude like that.

But it’s not just the political parties. Apparently the millennial generation doesn’t trust humanity in general. Check out this chart.

Is this yet another example of my favorite theory – that being The Internet Ruins Everything – or is social media usage just a symptom or side effect of a deeper cultural shift? I can’t help but think that viewing the world through the prism of your Twitter feed and Facebook comments would sour you on humanity. And with the lack of social filters which come with face to face interaction, it just feels as if you’d wind up with a more toxic stew on your hands. It was easier to deal with other people in a more civil fashion back when you had to actually leave your house and go see them face to face. But living primarily inside your smartphone can cause you to lose a lot of that human interaction.

Anyway, I’m just tossing this one out there for you to dissect. Do you have the same perception? Is the next generation turning into a society of sociopaths through web filtration? Have at it.
