Rep. Charlie Norwood died at his Georgia home on Tuesday after a long battle with cancer. He was 65.
Norwood left Washington last week to receive hospice care at home in Georgia, forgoing further treatment for lung cancer that had spread to his liver.
Norwood received a lung transplant in 2004. He suffered from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic lung disease.
Norwood’s spokesman, John Stone, said last week that the seven-term Republican decided to go home to Augusta, Ga., to be with his family and “let the Lord decide what to do.”
