AZ Dem gubernatorial candidate: I've had a lot of affairs with married women

In 1976, Jimmy Carter caught the political world off guard when he admitted in a Playboy interview that he had “committed adultery in his heart” by lusting after women other than his wife Rosalyn. At the time, the Washington Post noted that the controversy over those remarks convinced journalists at the time that it was “a warning sign of the future direction of American politics.”

How prescient that turned out to be! A Democratic candidate for governor in Arizona told Comedy Central that he hadn’t just committed adultery in his heart, but also with the rest of his body, too — a lot. Daily Show interviewer Desi Lydic reports that Noah Dyer has generated considerable recognition for breaking new ground in normalizing radical promiscuity, but wondered when he’ll “spend some time not campaigning with his d***.” Via the Free Beacon, and please note the not safe for work language/topic warning:

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah

“I don’t actually want to talk about my sex life; I’m just sharing it at the get-go so we can not talk about it,” Dyer insisted.

“But there’s a tab on your website about it,” Lydic pointed out. True enough, Dyer has a tab on his website going into detail about his divorce and his “deep and casual sexual experiences with all kinds of women.”

“There’s going to be a Republican governor for a long time,” Lydic predicted.

Probably, although not necessarily because of Dyer. A look at his campaign web site’s page on “scandal and controversy” suggests that Democrats won’t be enamored of Dyer, even apart from his amorous history, which … is about as described by Lydic:

Noah has had both deep and casual sexual experiences with all kinds of women. He is an advocate of open relationships. He’s had group sex and sex with married women. He has sent and received intimate texts and pictures, and occasionally recorded video during sex. Noah has always been forthright with his partners. All of his relationships have been legal and consensual, never coercive, or abusive, and he condemns such behavior. Noah is unapologetic about his sexual choices, and wishes others the same safety and confidence as they express themselves.

Would that chase Democrats off in a primary fight? At least Dyer comes pre-inoculated against scandal, amirite? This part of Dyer’s radical disclosure will be more of a problem, though:

Noah has a negative net worth, given that he has nearly $100,000 in student loan debt. His income based loan repayment plan is actually insufficient to cover the interest, and his balance grows every year.

During the recession, Noah used credit card cash advances to pay tens of thousands of dollars in child support. He paid some of those debts in full, but ended up settling some those debts individually for anywhere from $0.25 to $0.75 to the dollar. He also sold his home in a short sale.

Noah has technically been homeless, and has enjoyed extended periods of couch surfing, living in offices, and other uncommon living arrangements. Thankfully, he has not known homelessness like that experienced by many people on the streets, with whom he sympathizes.

High marks for honesty across the board, I guess, but good luck getting taxpayers to trust Dyer with their money.

Look at the bright side, Arizona Democrats. Dyer’s presence will make any other contenders for this seat appear brilliant by comparison. It’s a win-win for Dyer too; the publicity will fill up his, er, dance card for years to come, and he may end up getting regular gigs as a political/cultural observer for years. The only thing standing in Dyer’s way is a few poor Yelp ratings, it seems.
