Yeah, you know, maybe it’s time for us to rethink that ban on comments about nuking Mecca. Via Captain Ed:

A Saudi court has sentenced a gang rape victim to 90 lashes of the whip because she was alone in a car with a man to whom she was not married…

The court heard that the victim and her friend were followed by the assailants to their car, kidnapped and taken to a remote farm, where the raping occurred.

She got 90 lashes, one of the rapists got 80. This is the same country that’s at the top of the page at Drudge right now because they’re hot for nukes. As Steyn famously said, “It’s at the intersection of apparently indestructible ancient ignorance and cheap, widely available western technology that the dark imponderables of the future lie.”

Speaking of rape and indestructible ignorance, how’s Sheikh Hilali? Remember him, the Aussie rape mufti? He’s currently serving a three-month suspension from giving sermons at his mosque. Except that, um, he’s not:

Sheik Taj Aldin al-Hilali, mufti of Australia since 1989, had apologized last week for any offense he caused to women and then agreed with the Lakemba Mosque’s administrators to take three months off from preaching as outraged politicians called for his resignation.

But the 65-year-old native of Egypt appeared for noon prayers at the mosque Friday, Muslims’ sabbath, and preached for two hours. Jubilant worshippers carried him on their shoulders.

The Australian government is now thinking about doing away with “multiculturalism.”

Muslim feminists are meeting this weekend in Barcelona to address the various permutations of misogyny in the Middle East. Quote: “It is one thing for sexism to exist in a country on a social level – as it does in Spain and Italy – and quite another to approve discriminatory laws against women that forbid them to go out and condemn them to harsh punishments such as whipping if they disobey.”

In Gaza, the heroic mujahedeen are, almost literally, hiding behind their skirts. With predictable consequences.

Update: Jihadis in Iraq have introduced the “Abeer” rocket, named after the 14-year-old girl allegedly raped and murdered by U.S. troops. To be used against Americans? Well, it’s a little broader than that:

“We called it ‘Abeer’ to remind the Islamic nation of the wounds of our sister … whose virginity was violated by the worshippers of the cross,” the Islamic Army, said in a statement posted together with the footage on a Web site frequently used by insurgent groups to publish announcements.

“Worshippers of the cross” was an apparent reference to Christians.
