Christians and Zoroastrians get to join in the fun, too.

What’s left to say?

Iranian expatriates living in Canada yesterday confirmed reports that the Iranian parliament, called the Islamic Majlis, passed a law this week setting a dress code for all Iranians, requiring them to wear almost identical “standard Islamic garments.”

The law, which must still be approved by Iran’s “Supreme Guide” Ali Khamenehi before being put into effect, also establishes special insignia to be worn by non-Muslims.

Iran’s roughly 25,000 Jews would have to sew a yellow strip of cloth on the front of their clothes, while Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would be forced to wear blue cloth…

The new law was drafted two years ago, but was stuck in the Iranian parliament until recently when it was revived at the behest of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Note: the point to take away from that last paragraph isn’t that Ahmadinejad is pushing it through. It’s that Iran was thinking about this before he even took office. Bear it in mind when the usual suspects start arguing that the mullahs don’t really mean it, that it’s just another hollow provocation cooked up by the cagy jihadi-in-chief to draw the west into attacking.

More details from Amir Taheri:

According to Ahmadinejad, the new Islamic uniforms will establish “visual equality” for Iranians as they prepare for the return of the Hidden Imam…

The new law imposes a total ban on wearing neckties and bow-ties which are regarded as “symbols of the Cross.” Will Iranian Christians be allowed to wear them, nevertheless? No one knows…

One remaining problem is to decide the age at which girls should wear the uniforms. At present the hijab is mandatory from the age of six. But some of Ahmadinejad’s advisers want to reduce that to four…

“Our aim is to make sure that every Muslim, wherever he or she happens to be on this Earth, is a living and walking symbol of Islam,” says Pourharandi.

Re: the return of the hidden imam, see Regime Change Iran.

The important thing now is not to worry. Remember — worrying is what “fear-stricken” conservatives do. True bravery is affecting near-complete indifference to the prospect of a nuclear-armed, Holocaust-denying radical Islamic state forcing Jews to wear yellow insignia while simultaneously hosing down the front of your pants daily over NSA data mining.

Too bad Ahmadinejad’s not a “Christianist” so we could all worry about him together, huh?

There is also the story of a 31-year-old nurse who was forced to wear a black and yellow “Star of David” branding her as a Jewish “race defile”. Her file notes: “The woman is a half-Jew who lives with her Aryan boyfriend. She acknowledges they have had sexual relations.” The woman disappeared after being dispatched to Ravensbrück concentration camp.

Meanwhile, the previous estimates that Iran won’t have a bomb for five to ten years are in flux. The fact is, says the New York Times, we really just don’t know.
