This really does sound too good to be true so take it with a big grain of salt, but Page Six is reporting that the Russia Probe grand jury would fit in at a Bernie Sanders rally or maybe a Black Lives Matter protest:

“The grand jury room looks like a Bernie Sanders rally,” my source said. “Maybe they found these jurors in central casting, or at a Black Lives Matter rally in Berkeley [Calif.]”

Of the 20 jurors, 11 are African-Americans and two were wearing “peace T-shirts,” the witness said. “There was only one white male in the room, and he was a prosecutor.” Mueller was not present…

Sol Wachtler, the former chief judge in New York, once called for abolishing grand juries because they are so easily manipulated that they would “indict a ham sandwich.”

My source said, “That room isn’t a room where POTUS gets a fair shake.”

Some people on Twitter are already saying (or insinuating) this account of the composition of the grand jury is racist.

Again, I think there is reason to wonder how accurate this report is but it’s no secret that black Americans vote overwhelmingly for the Democratic Party. In 2016, 88% of black voters pulled the lever for Hillary compared to just 8% for Trump. So, like it or not, race really is a proxy for political outlook. Yes, it’s possible Mueller’s grand jury has pulled together every black Republican in Washington, DC but that seems unlikely. If a grand jury were investigating former President Obama and someone noted it was overwhelmingly white, I suspect that would be treated as news even though whites have more evenly divided voting habits.

All the way back in August, Alan Dershowitz was arguing that impaneling a second grand jury in DC (there was already a grand jury investigating Michael Flynn in Northern Virginia) was a tactical move designed to ensure a heavily Democratic jury should any case go to trial. “Do you believe that it kind of stacks the deck against the President by doing that?” host Rita Cosby asked. “Yes, yes,” Dershowitz replied. He added, “I think it’s a tactical move designed to send a message that if the prosecutor decides to prosecute, he will have a real advantage with the jury pool where the case will be held.”

To be clear, Dershowitz isn’t specifically citing the composition of the grand jury. In this interview with MSNBC he describes them as puppets who do what the prosecutor tells them to do. But he is saying this was a tactical move based on the Democratic tilt of the city.
