Hillary broke her toe while on her book tour in England
Hillary Clinton, currently in England as part of her ongoing book tour, had to cancel several planned media interviews after breaking her toe. She did eventually turn up for an interview with Graham Norton but was several hours later. Her spokesman, Nick Merrill, tweeted an image of her wearing a surgical boot during the interview:
Her interview won’t be aired until Friday so there’s no video yet, but what she told Norton is already circulating in several British papers. From the Telegraph:
Mrs Clinton said: “I was running down the stairs in heels with a cup of coffee in hand, I was talking over my shoulder and my heel caught and I fell backwards.
“I tried to get up and it really hurt. I’ve broken my toe. I’ve received excellent care from your excellent health service.”
How do you break a toe going down the stairs and falling backwards? It’s hard to visualize that one. As you can see in that tweet above, her spokesman didn’t say she’d broken her toe only that she’d “twisted her ankle.” Was he confused about her condition? According to Hillary she announced it as soon as it happened.
Needless to say, this is not the first time Hillary has struggled with a) stairs or b) staying upright. We all remember this moment from last year:
It’s also worth recalling how Hillary’s camp handled that incident. Clinton’s stumble happened on a Sunday as she was attending a 9/11 memorial event. Later we learned she had been diagnosed with pneumonia the previous Friday, but her aides didn’t reveal that when the diagnosis was made. Even when she left the 9/11 event early, aides claimed she had felt “overheated.” When she appeared on the street hours later outside her daughter’s apartment she told reporters, “It’s a beautiful day in New York. I’m feeling great.” No mention of the pneumonia diagnosis. Finally, after 5 pm with video of her passing out in the street making the rounds, her campaign admitted she was ill. All of that to say, Clinton only tells the truth when she is completely out of other options (and not always then).
Last year she also seemed to struggle and stumble while getting on her campaign plane:
Earlier in the year, she appeared to slip on some stairs at a residential facility in South Carolina:
Hillary’s stumbles make news for one of two reasons, either she was caught on camera or she injured herself in a way that necessitated an explanation, i.e. a broken bone, a concussion. I don’t think there’s any conspiracy theory to be made of this, it’s just Hillary being her normal, secretive self. After so many years of listening to her shifting explanations, it’s hard to take anything she says at face value, even her explanation of a broken toe.
