What happened here? I’m just a simple unfrozen atheist caveman, but Bernie seems to take great offense at the very basic Christian belief that only by accepting Jesus as your savior can you find salvation. “No one comes to the Father except through me,” right? Sanders is trying to frame that as bigotry towards religious minorities like Muslims and Jews, but no doubt Russell Vought would say the same of me and the rest of the country’s many, many millions of irreligious people. Embrace Christ or damnation awaits. That’s Christianity 101. (Well, many forms of Christianity anyway. Catholics are different, I believe: “Those also can attain to salvation who through no fault of their own do not know the Gospel of Christ or His Church, yet sincerely seek God and moved by grace strive by their deeds to do His will as it is known to them through the dictates of conscience.”) I don’t take offense to it. Why does Sanders?
Is he this desperate for lines of attack against Trump’s nominees that he’s willing to impose a de facto religious test on them or is he this ignorant of standard Christian dogma? And what does he think Russell Vought’s going to do to bring down the black boot of Islamophobia on America Muslims as deputy bean-counter at OMB?
