I couldn’t let the week pass without adding this to the OOTD canon, especially not after the self-congratulations of the Barack Obama campaign after its report on Q3 fundraising:
“We did more with less this quarter – we canceled a series of events over the summer as congressional negotiations were ongoing, and our supporters stepped up in their stead,” wrote an Obama campaign official in an email. “Even more supporters contributed this quarter and we’re now within striking distance of one million donors, something it took us a year to accomplish between Feb 07 and Feb 08, and that was in the midst of an energetic primary.”
All that cash — and yet they began trolling for free poster designs this week with a cheesy contest:
Obama for America is seeking poster submissions from artists across the country illustrating why we support President Obama’s plan to create jobs now, and why we’ll re-elect him to continue fighting for jobs for the next four years. …
When you submit your design, please include the title of your poster, a short paragraph about it, and your name as you’d like it to appear. All submissions will become the property of Obama for America.
After all, what better way to promote jobs than by trying to avoid paying people for doing the work you need?
Update: I missed the best part — the ART WORKS logo in the top left. Does art “work”? Not at Team Obama, at least not “work” in the sense of getting paid.
Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at [email protected] with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.
