As you gathered with family and friends for Thanksgiving, you may have run into a dilemma. Traditionally, the dinner feast ends with an array of delicious pies — apple, pumpkin, pecan, or even cherry. In years past, we gluttonous Americans simply dug into those bakery treats with scant consideration for our health and welfare or, worse, the health and welfare of our children. Thankfully, though, we have a First Lady who cares for us enough to scold us for being a nation of fat loads of blubber.
But we may all feel free to pull on the pants with the really stretchy waistband and dig into our pies with gusto, for Michelle Obama, in an interview with Barbara Walters, has given us the green light to indulge.
Michelle Obama said it’s fine to eat what you want on Thanksgiving.
“Don’t worry about how much you eat. Just enjoy it,” she said. “This is the time. Have pie.”
Indeed, the White House will join in the pig-out today, as pies make up more than third of the menu in the Obama household tonight.
So there you go, America. You have permission to eat without worry. Just don’t think you’ll get this sort of latitude for very long. Expect that we’ll have to pay for this soon enough, perhaps with a National Penalty Laps Day.
