He’s pleaded not guilty and he’s not the only person who’s been accused at large, but the lone surviving victim ID’d him from mug shots. Obviously we’ll have to wait and see how it shakes out, but according to Fox, if he’s convicted it’ll be the latest entry in Patterico’s horrific continuing series:

An illegal immigrant in the execution-style killings of three students was to be arraigned on Friday morning after surrendering the day before to New Jersey Mayor Cory Booker…

FOX News has learned Carranza, who has a fake Social Security number, had been arrested on charges of raping a 5-year-old and then threatening the child and parents. In that case he faced a 31-count indictment…

In another, he was arrested on assault charges stemming from a bar fight.

Has he been acquitted of those charges or are they still pending? According to the New York Post, the assault charges were filed in April but the child rape charge stems from last July. Quote:

On July 2, 2006, he was indicted for a sex attack against a victim between the ages of 3 and 5, according to court papers. The abuse went on for two years.

Sources said Carranza’s girlfriend had two girls.

Now, the question: Assuming there’s a “Big Story” segment on this this afternoon, which there almost certainly will be, and assuming that amnesty shill Geraldo Rivera is on to spin the living shinola out of it, which he almost certainly will be, will Gibby try to catch him off-guard by tossing at him two more murder cases in the news right now with illegals as the prime suspect? And will Geraldo get that deer-in-the-headlights look before sputtering about how John Lennon was an illegal immigrant too? And will I furthermore then have to cut and upload that clip for our mass amusement? Stay tuned!

Meanwhile, the boss smells amnesty cover in Bush’s much touted new border crackdown, one provision of which, ironically in light of Carranza, would force employers to fire people with fake social security numbers. And here’s something for all the lawyers and law students in the house:

The Bush administration on Friday will announce plans to enlist state and local law enforcement in cracking down on illegal immigrants, which previously was largely a federal function, according to congressional sources…

In one of the most interesting revelations, the plans call for the administration to “train growing numbers of state and local law enforcement officers to identify and detain immigration offenders whom they encounter in the course of daily law enforcement,” according to a summary provided to The Politico by a congressional source.

Isn’t this a wee bit unconstitutional?

Update: MM sends this link to the Center for Immigration Studies in response to my last question. The legal analysis is about halfway down. The ACLU or whoever is bound to challenge it on the grounds I mentioned, though, which will put the conservative Supreme Court in the awkward position of either prohibiting federal agents from enlisting state and local officers to help crack down on immigration or undercutting its own federalist principle as articulated in Printz to let them do so.

According to court records obtained by The Star-Ledger of Newark, Carranza was indicted twice this year — in April on aggravated assault and weapons charges and in July on 31 counts including aggravated sexual assault of a child younger than 13. He was free on bail on the indictments.

Remember, the assault charge was in April, nine months after the rape charge. They had an illegal alien with heinous sex charges already pending against him in their custody and they let him go?
