Report: 3 or 4 new missiles on launch pad in NK; NBC: Another ICBM being prepped

Fox broke in a few minutes ago with the news, citing an AP report which in turn cited a newspaper in South Korea. Nothing on the wires yet, but here’s something buried in a Fox report from earlier today:

A senior Bush administration official told FOX News that North Korea had more missiles ready for launch, noting that two of Wednesday’s missile firings “weren’t launched from the facility we expected, but from the coast.”

And get this:

In Russia, Interfax quoted the army chief of staff, Gen. Yuri Baluyevsky as saying the number of missiles fired by North Korea could be higher than the six cited by the U.S., Japan and South Korea.

“According to various data, 10 missiles were launched. Some say that these were missiles of various classes; however, some claim that all missiles were intercontinental,” Baluyevsky was quoted as saying in the Russian Far East city of Chita.

Not to go all Loose Change on you, but why would the Russian chief of staff exaggerate the number of missiles? Russia’s resisting sanctions; the more dangerous the situation gets, the less tenable their position is.

Could those in the know be downplaying the severity of the provocation to avoid having to respond militarily? And if Kim is willing to go this far to get attention, how much further will he go?

Tune in tomorrow — same Bat time, same Bat channel!

Update: Here we go. Short- to medium-range, allegedly.

Update: I spoke too soon. NBC says they’re prepping another Taepodong, although it’s not yet on the pad.
