Breaking: Senate voting on Dem withdrawal resolutions (Update: Both fail) (Rolls added)

Fox is carrying it live. Both will fail, but it’ll be interesting to see how the Democratic vote shakes out. The Levin-Reed proposal (“cut and jog”) calls for troop withdrawal to begin by the end of the year; the Kerry-Feingold alternative calls for full withdrawal to be complete by next summer. I’ll have the rolls once they’re up.

The boss goes to the Simpsons well for a proper analogy.

Update: Kerry-Feingold killed, 86-13. Recall that the previous version of the amendment was defeated 93-6 last week; the new version was substantially identical except that it pushed the deadline for complete withdrawal back six months from the end of this year to the middle of next.

So Kerry picked up seven votes for a six-month timetable tweak.

Update: The Levin-Reed amendment fails, 39-60. Stay tuned for the rolls.

Update: The rolls are up. The 13 Dems who voted for Kerry-Feingold:

Akaka (D-HI)
Boxer (D-CA)
Durbin (D-IL)
Feingold (D-WI)
Harkin (D-IA)
Inouye (D-HI)
Jeffords (I-VT)
Kennedy (D-MA)
Kerry (D-MA)
Lautenberg (D-NJ)
Leahy (D-VT)
Menendez (D-NJ)
Wyden (D-OR)

Missing from that list: Robert Byrd. He voted for the original incarnation of the Kerry amendment demanding full withdrawal by the end of the year. Now that Kerry’s extended the deadline, he votes against? Wha?

Here’s the roll for Levin-Reed. Byrd did vote for this one, as did the rest of the Kerry 13. As did that famous hawk, Hillary. Dems voting no:

Dayton (D-MN)
Landrieu (D-LA)
Lieberman (D-CT)
Nelson (D-FL)
Nelson (D-NE)
Pryor (D-AR)

Good for Liebs for sticking to his guns while under nutroots pressure.

Update: The Therapist notes the thwarting of Kerry’s hopes for a last-minute flip-flop by 38 Senators.
