There may not always be an England

posted at 7:11 pm on December 6, 2012 by J.E. Dyer

Q.  When does the British government subsidize a TV channel that carries the rants of anti-gay religious fanatics?

A.  When the TV channel is run by Islamist extremists.

OK, that one was a softball.  But it’s worth pointing out a telling contrast in the British government’s stance on people’s right to think unapproved thoughts about homosexuality.

Here is what Mr. Abdullah Hakim Quick, a speaker who has been featured on Britain’s Ramadan TV, has to say about gays:

Abdullah Hakim Quick … has been condemned by New Zealand’s broadcasting authority for his anti-gay tirades, which state that homosexuals must be killed, that they are “sick” and “not natural”, and that “Muslims are going to have to take a stand [against homosexuals] and it’s not enough to call names.” He continues to hold this position: “They said ‘what is the Islamic position [on homosexuality]?’ And I told them. Put my name in the paper. The punishment is death. And I’m not going to change this religion.”

The National Health Service’s North East London & the City agency responded to this editorial posture by subsidizing Ramadan TV to the tune of £3,200.  Sam Westrop at the Gatestone Institute (first link) gives other examples of bloodthirsty extremism from the talking heads on Ramadan TV.  Homosexuality, however, is the topic that highlights the unequal treatment now being accorded to citizens of the UK.

Islamist anti-gay ranters may find their media outlets subsidized by British government agencies, but foster parents who merely can’t agree to endorse homosexuality to children under the age of 10 are denied any further opportunities to take in foster children.  Such was the judgment of the Derby City Council against Owen and Eunice Johns in 2010.  The council’s decision on the matter was upheld by the British High Court in February 2011.

The organization Christian Concern summarized the court’s findings at the time (all emphases in original):

[T]he [High Court] judges stated:

  • ·         That if children are placed with parents who have traditional Christian views like the Johns “there may well be a conflict with the local authority’s duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of looked-after children”,
  • ·         That there is a tension between the equality provisions concerning religious discrimination and those concerning sexual orientation. Yet, as regards fostering, “the equality provisions concerning sexual orientation should take precedence”,
  • ·         That a local authority can require positive attitudes to be demonstrated towards homosexuality,
  • ·         That there is no religious discrimination against the Johns because they were being excluded from fostering due to their moral views on sexual ethics and not their Christian beliefs (This is incredible and very disingenuous as the Johns moral views cannot be separated from their religious beliefs), and
  • ·         That “Article 9 [of the European Human Rights Act] only provides a ‘qualified’ right to manifest religious belief and … this will be particularly so where a person in whose care a child is placed wishes to manifest a belief that is inimical to the interests of children”.

So, it is clear that if you are Christian and don’t endorse homosexuality, you will be denied participation in government-regulated activities – even if you state, as Eunice Johns did, that you have no animus against gays.  But if you are an Islamist organization and your featured speakers advocate death for homosexuals, you can be subsidized by a government agency – that is, by the UK taxpayer.

Of course, when one thing goes wrong with a society, everything else does too.  It’s worth noting the news that some Jewish students at the University of Edinburgh have had to decide to leave school, due to an alarmingly unpleasant campus atmosphere created by radical Islamists and anti-Israel groups.  This is reminiscent of Germany in the 1930s, among other things.

Scotland, like England, once produced philosophers of freedom, tolerance, rationality, and equality before the law.  But the noble British tradition from which America drew so much is close to extinction in its birthplace.  It’s easy to blame radical Muslims for this, but the truth is that the Brits, like the rest of the West, have done it to themselves with a nihilistic radical-left philosophy.  The same city councilmen who denied foster parenting to the Johns couple would quite probably dismiss Mr. Quick’s anti-gay rant with a hand-wave and a naively Orwellian phrase or two about “diversity.”  The reign of irrational, hysterical sentiment is complete – and every word in its charter document was written by the Western left.

John Bull was once a canny and tough old fellow.  But he set aside principle for sentiment, and today, he is on life-support.

England has been cowering before Islamists and looking the other way at anti-Semites of all flavors for a long time now.

They have known terrorists on the dole in pretty nice housing. They would like to deport them but cannot because their country of origin is thought to torture terrorists.

IN the pecking order of the left, from most important to least important of all the protected classes in Britain is:

non-white non-Christian gays
non-white non-Christians straights
any non-Christians
non-Christian gays
any gays
Christian gays
non-Christian women
non-Christian feminist women
Christian feminist women
any feminist women
any women
the non-white non-Christian handicapped
the non-white Christian handicapped
any handicapped . . .

. . . you get the idea

Then finally . . .

non-Christian, non-white pedophiles
yada, yada yada, down to

any criminals

That concludes the list of the protected classes of Britain
_______________________________

In the non-protected classes, at the bottom, is everybody else.

Ergo, if they have to choose between the islamics vs gays, islamics win. Unless the islamic guy was white and ranting about a gay arab. Then there is a schism. IN that case, the island of Britain self-detonates.

Wow, you are missing the point. The point is not whether the Islamic guy would be allowed to take in foster children, it’s that there’s a massive double standard on display in the British government’s selective enforcement of its noble anti-discrimination policies.

It is apparently the British government’s official position that it, and local governments, should “require positive attitudes to be demonstrated towards homosexuality” and that anti-homosexual beliefs are “inimical to the interests of children.” And yet this same government is providing financial support to a virulently anti-gay Islamic TV show. The rule you must accept is that any white, western country will be governed by leftist ideology, and Canada and Australia and New Zealand are no exceptions. Those places all share the same political culture, so they share the same political evolution. In Canada, you can be thrown in jail for saying the “wrong” thing. You can be pulled before a human rights commission if, as a comedian, you told a gay joke in your routine – and you’re white and straight. And that’s no joke. It’s happened.

I’m hopeful that liberty could catch on over there, but if Putin is somehow toppled there are only Zyuganov and Zhirinovsky waiting in the wings… It might still take another couple of generations even if they find the right path.

Ukraine meanwhile has plenty going for it. 50 million people, good land, and a growing economy. It’s only trouble is a corrupt government and that country on it’s border. The government at this point I consider a push as to what we have here. The chief difference is over there at least there are those heavily focused on fighting the corruption. It could go either way… Of course if they do find their way to complete freedom, Ukraine can emerge into a powerhouse – not something Putin wants to see, hence his ongoing efforts to keep them under his thumb.

Rebar on December 1, 2012 at 12:00 PM

But I digress.

I dunno, it’s my personal opinion that free speech isn’t always agreeable to all people all the time, but it’s necessary in a free society. And if the Brits are subsicizing this stuff in question, based on the Islamic-ness of the source, yeah…it does seem like nothing more than capitulation.

And it needs to stop before it’s too late…not only in Europe, and not only referencing Islamic extremism… but in places like Uganda where gays are systematically murdered.

But they come very close to lasting forever, at least if the corpse isn’t cremated, and that’s the one legacy Britain will always have, especially as they invite more muslim breeders in.

Maybe the doctor will have a cosmic rebirth in some fashion. The 13th doctor (of 24) with his companions, an unmarried woman of marriageable age and her close male relative chaperone, will fight the jihad and be victorious against the Cybermen Crusaders.

Now THAT’s a script Al-Jazeera would buy (if your script includes a few Daleks programmed to blast the Call To Prayer 5 times a day).

Ladysmith CulchaVulcha on December 6, 2012 at 8:46 PM

There are, of course, various parts of the beast to look at.

From direct personal experience, I can say that British officers (all services) I worked with/around never disappointed in being the witty, educated, wry, effective and focused stereotypes we get from literature and (WWII-era) movies.

But they shared one other thing – to a man, they were changing their plans, and cutting short their military careers, due to the collapse of public understanding of and support for any UK participation in important international operations – and the budget collapse that goes along with that.

It’s no hyperbole to say that the very best of many many things that humans have ever created on this planet are being abandoned. The UK clearly is much further down the slope (and didn’t have many of our “guard-rails” to begin with) than the US. But a growing awareness of our own fundamental decline going back a few years was (naturally) confirmed, expanded, and finalized this past month. And unlike most, I refuse for one second to pretend that the fault lies with distant “elites” or the idiotic press, etc. It’s everyone in this country – those in your family, your neighbors, your co-workers, your team-mates – anyone who combines the ignorance of American history and institutions, inability to think critically, economic illiteracy, clownish race-guilt, and moral imbecility that has put and now pushed the country on this downward slope.

IceCold on December 6, 2012 at 8:47 PM

Why focus on the decline of England. We are witnessing the decline of America and it will descend more rapidly than England’s decline.

While we are in bad shape, we are not nearly as bad off as the Brits. Their Muslim problem is far worse than anything we hav. They are subsidizing millions who want to establish a Muslim government and introduce sharia.

Don’t get me wrong. We have major problems but we are not nearly as bad off as the Brits.

King Charles III will be the final monarch in the UK.

There is no doubt he will bow to Islam.

Not Russia. Ukraine. Russia has 1000 years of history working against it.

I admit I do not know much about the country, other than it has a good climate around the Crimanean peninsula and lots of arable land.

Russia has a flat tax, which makes it infinitely better than the US. Many of my other choices are socialist, yes, but they are not nearly as far gone as the US is.

England has fallen so far from these days:

“This burning of widows is your custom; prepare the funeral pile. But my nation has also a custom. When men burn women alive we hang them, and confiscate all their property. My carpenters shall therefore erect gibbets on which to hang all concerned when the widow is consumed. Let us all act according to national customs.”

Sir Charles Napier, where are you when your nation needs to start hanging some more woman-hating savages…

England died in ’45. Everything that followed was merely its death agonies.

OldEnglish on December 6, 2012 at 9:37 PM

I know a British ex-pat who says the UK is no longer the country most Americans think it is. If you’re an Anglaphile, the England you admire is a distant memory. Native Brits are leaving the country in droves.

DRayRaven on December 6, 2012 at 7:17 PM

That makes me sad. I’d always wanted to attend the CS Lewis retreat at the Kilns one day. Prophetic…his trilogy ending in “The Hideous Strength” basically wrote about the fall due to UK government interference. It revealed the ugly side of government run healthcare..he labeled it “The Nice”..it’s known as “NHS” in the UK. Countries that turn their backs on God and instead replace God with Government will fail. Destiny.

OldEnglish on December 6, 2012 at 9:37 PM

So it seems. I’m in my 40′s and American.. but loved the teachings of Lewis..from the 1940′s. That time for England may be gone (always have hope that it’s not so). But his teachings still effect those today…so there is still hope..maybe just not physically in England.

If you are looking for nice weather, may I suggest Split, Croatia?

I just read this article an hour ago.

The National Health Service’s North East London & the City agency responded to this editorial posture by subsidizing Ramadan TV to the tune of £3,200.

The United States Government spent $20K denouncing a YouTube video with no less than the rat-eared wonder and pig-in-a-pantsuit as spokescritters. The Americans did it to further the lie that the massacre at Benghazi wasn’t bad policy. The Brits did what they did to deny the reality of a radical Islamic threat among their own citizens.

How many corners of the UK are affected by a High Court ruling? All of them? If they’re not, Parliament needs to go back to the drawing board.

The point about Dearborn is that what goes on there is happening in the USA. What happened in Derby and northeast London is happening in the UK. Calling it hysteria to issue warnings about these untoward events is very much a complacent 1930s mentality.

And it needs to stop before it’s too late…not only in Europe, and not only referencing Islamic extremism… but in places like Uganda where gays are systematically murdered.

JetBoy on December 6, 2012 at 8:36 PM

I always love how gay-sex liberals like JetBoy can scream about Uganda while endorsing and supporting Hamas, Iran, Libyan militias, and their very own Obama Party friends like Calypso Louie and Detroit.

Why, it’s almost as if they only care about Uganda because they can try to blame it on Christians — and that they don’t care otherwise, especially since these other places are allies of the glorious Obama Reich.

My generation – and the ones immediately before and after mine – are absolutely going to be CLOBBERED by this.

When an entire nation is so screwed up that people are publicly proud of being harlots and perverts, when multiple generations are essentially told that “salad bar morality” is the best way to live, you are already destined for danger. And all that without taking into account the hard racial/cultural truths that are going to violently defy both liberal equality and conservative egalitarianism.
