Mostly Peaceful Protesters Arrested at DNC While Demanding Ceasefire

About 300 peaceniks calling for a ceasefire demonstrated in front of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters in Washington, D.C. Wednesday night. Just kidding. The pro-Palestine, pro-Hamas demonstration turned violent. Arrests were made.

The DNC was holding a private event with about 100 people inside party headquarters when the chanting from the crowd interrupted the speeches. Those inside at the reception included House leaders, lawmakers, and Democratic candidates running for the House. The protesters did not enter the building.

U.S. Capitol Police said the protesters were “illegally and violently protesting” near the DNC headquarters building in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Members of Congress were evacuated as the protest grew.

Video posted on social media showed protesters shoving police officers and trying to grab hold of metal barricades as the officers moved in to make arrests. The videos also show officers shoving protesters. Many of the protesters were wearing black shirts that read “Cease Fire Now.”

Protesters included members of If Not Now and Jewish Voice for Peace, who have organized other demonstrations in Washington.

Protester Dani Noble said the demonstrators came to the DNC on Wednesday night to peacefully call on Democratic Party leadership to support a cease-fire in Gaza. Instead, “we were met by police pulling on folks that are disabled or have have chronic illnesses, pulling people to the ground in riot gear,” Noble said.

Noble, who lives in Philadelphia and is a supporter of the group Jewish Voice for Peace, said no one group organized the protest, but instead it was a coalition of many groups and individuals who support a cease-fire.

“It is shameful the way that nonviolent protesters and members of our community were met with violence tonight. It is absolutely shameful,” Noble added.

Wow. It sounds like she is blaming the police for the violence, doesn’t it? Videos I’ve watched show protesters getting in the faces of the police as they stood guard in front of the DNC.

Rep. Brad Sherman, who is Jewish, was inside attending the reception. He posted on X and was interviewed on CNN after he was evacuated. And, just like that, he dragged Republicans into the chaos and said the demonstrators want Republicans to win in 2024. This guy is a piece of work. The pro-Hamas rioters aren’t Republican supporters, buddy, those rioters are your party’s people.

Members of Congress were in their offices when the Capitol Hill Police locked down the House and Senate buildings due to the riot.

It’s a stark contrast to the huge pro-Israel rally on the Mall on Tuesday. It was peaceful and no police officers were injured.

One arrest was made for assault on an officer. Police said that pepper spray was used on some of the rioters. The police officers pushed the crowd back to about a block from the DNC building.

It’s the ceasefire crowd that has violence issues. Rep.Sean Casten (D-IL) doesn’t want the pro-Hamas crowd to get hurt out there while causing riots.

“You have the Constitutional right to peaceably assemble and protest. But blocking all entries to a building with multiple members of Congress in it, protected by Capitol Police officers who have lived through January 6 is putting you and other innocent people at risk,” he said. “We were rescued by armed officers who did not know the protestors’ intent; they knew only that Members of Congress were inside, could not leave and that protestors would not let police through. Forcing police to guess intent is irresponsible and dangerous.”

I don’t think a “y’all be careful out there” speech is going to change what is happening. The rioters know what they are doing. It is a culture of destruction, not bringing people together in a rational way. Chaos is their goal.

It will be interesting to see how the media covers this kind of targeted rioting going forward. Most media gave little space online to report on the pro-Israel rally on the Mall on Tuesday. The Washington Post had its write-up in its Metro section.

The Jerusalem Post, however, put it on the morning edition’s front page.

The leftists have allowed this antisemitism to fester just under the surface for years, rearing its ugly head now and then but never to this extent. It’s going to be hard to come back from all of this. The new normal is regular rioting and looting in America on any given day or night. It’s unsustainable.
