Democrat says Trump should be shot, quickly corrects herself

Delegate Stacey Plaskett, (D-Virgin Islands) slipped during a live television interview on MSNBC (where else?) and said that former President Trump should be shot. She quickly recovered and said “stopped.” She was talking about the criminal case filed against him by DOJ in Miami. Thanks to a hyper-aggressive special counsel and Trump’s own poor judgement and deliberate actions, he now potentially faces prison time.

The angry left and Trump-deranged Republicans are giddy with excitement. Perhaps they will see Trump in an orange jumpsuit after all these years of wishful thinking. One particularly nasty Democrat took it even farther when she slipped and said Trump should be shot. That escalated quickly. She covered it up by correcting herself and saying he should be stopped. Shot, stopped, potato, potahto.

Freudian slip? I might be inclined to think so but this elected official has a history of saying ugly things about Republicans during committee hearings. She accused Trump of having classified information at Mar-a-Lago and showing the documents to anyone who came to visit him. What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

Plaskett is the Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on the Weaponization of Government. She has made some unfortunate headlines in recent months. In April, Plaskett threatened journalist Matt Taibbi with jail for his testimony before the committee. She claimed he committed perjury. Apparently the irony was lost on Plaskett. She, as the ranking member of a House committee, was threatening a journalist with time in jail when the committee is supposed to be investigating the weaponization of the government. She is not the brightest bulb.

In July 2019, I wrote about Plaskett’s connection to Jeffrey Epstein. He contributed to her campaigns and she said she would not be returning his money. Epstein contributed $2700 to Plaskett during her 2018 campaign for re-election, the limit. He also contributed to her twice in 2016 – in both her primary and general election races. Little Saint James is a private island in the Virgin Islands owned by Epstein. Perhaps he was just supporting her as his local representative.

As a delegate, she has limited voting power. She has committee assignments and responsibilities on the floor but not if her vote is the deciding vote.

She noted in the interview that Trump will have his day in court, the same as any other American citizen, to defend himself. Considering she thinks, at least somewhere in her subconscious, that Trump should be shot, that’s big of her. Then she made a lame statement that Trump was indicted in a red state by his peers.

“Of course, he’s going to have his day in court,” she continued. “Let’s remember that he was indicted by his peers — individual Americans who live in South Florida, a red state — they saw enough that there was probable cause for him to bring this indictment for him to stand trial.”

Florida is indeed a red state now, thanks to the work of Governor Ron DeSantis, but it wasn’t when the investigation and grand jury’s work began. The FBI opened a criminal investigation in March 2022. The grand jury issued a subpoena in May. It required Trump to return all remaining classiffied documents. DeSantis was re-elected in a landslide in November 2022. It was apparent then that his success as a governor had turned the purple swing state into a solidly red state. Plaskett inserting the red state versus blue state tension into her opinion is odd.

She certainly doesn’t come to her role as ranking member of the committee with an open mind. She blames Republican propaganda as the reason that Americans don’t trust the DOJ or the FBI during the Biden administration. Did Republican propaganda weaponize the DOJ and FBI or did their own actions do that? She’s blaming Republicans for speaking out against what sure looks like political persecution. Both agencies have lots of explaining to do after being exposed for their corruption and political partisanship.

This is quite a diatribe against Republicans.

Republicans didn’t cause Americans to distrust the DOJ and FBI. They did it all on their own. DOJ and the FBI must be held accountable for their actions.
