Biden unloads at DNC fundraiser: Republican philosophy is “semi-fascism”

“MAGA Republicans” are destroying democracy in America. That was the message Joe Biden delivered at a DNC rally in Rockville, Maryland, and at a fundraiser before the rally in Bethesda. While speaking at the fundraiser, Biden even whipped out the “f” word – fascism. Is that any way for Biden to talk about over 70 million voters?

At both the fundraiser and the rally, Biden moved between boasting about what he has accomplished so far in his first term (ahem!) and going full-on angry old man when talking about Republicans. Whatever happened to President Unity? In Bethesda Biden told Democrat donors that Trump and his supporters have a philosophy that is like “semi-fascism.” Bold talk from a man who has governed more by executive action and memos than through legislation in Congress.

Hours earlier at a fundraiser in Bethesda, Biden also accused Trump and his allies in the party of espousing a philosophy akin to “semi-fascism.”

The comments represented perhaps the most forceful rebuke of Republicans to date from Biden, who ran in 2020 as a unifier and who has sought to work across the aisle during his presidency. They signal a sharper tone for Biden as he and other Democrats try to hold on to their narrow majorities in the House and Senate in November.

Thursday evening’s events are a preview as to how Joe Biden will campaign for Democrats running in midterm elections in November. He will demonize Republicans and claim that voters must support Democrats to save democracy. His speeches, though, tell the truth that Biden was never a unifier and his promise to unify the country and heal the soul of the nation after the bad Orange Man’s time in the White House was always a lie. Biden is desperate to pull out some wins in November and try to hold on to a Democrat majority in Congress. It is hard to imagine a more divisive politician than Barack Obama was in office but Joe Biden has managed to top him. America is more divided than ever.

I wonder if the talk of “semi-fascism” was in the teleprompter or if it was adlibbed. When Biden goes off the teleprompter, he always gets into hot water. Are his speechwriters telling him to go this route or is he doing it on his own?

Biden appeared with Maryland Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wes Moore and other Democratic representatives from the state at the DNC rally in Rockville. During his speech he deliberately made distinctions between conservative Republicans and MAGA Republicans. Biden used Maryland Governor Larry Hogan as an example of a conservative Republican. Joe Biden is a clueless Democrat who doesn’t realize that his example of Hogan is amusing to Republicans who do know the difference between conservative Republicans and say, moderate or liberal Republicans. Larry Hogan is a moderate to liberal Republican. He isn’t conservative enough for Republican voters to gain any traction in his ambitions to run for the Republican nomination for president.

“The MAGA Republicans don’t just threaten our personal rights and economic security. They’re a threat to our very democracy,” Biden said as he wrapped up his remarks. “They refuse to accept the will of the people. They embrace, embrace political violence. They don’t believe in democracy.”

“This is why in this moment, those of you that love this country — Democrats, independents, mainstream Republicans — we must be stronger, more determined, and more committed to saving America than the MAGA Republicans are destroying America,” he said.

He said he likes conservative Republicans but he doesn’t like MAGA Republicans. Biden is dusting off his pitch that voters must support Democrat candidates so that Democrats can “save Democracy again”. You know, like when Biden’s election saved democracy the first time around.

“Now need to vote to literally save democracy again,” Biden told a large crowd at the Democratic National Committee rally in Rockville, Md., just outside of Washington, D.C. “Trump and the extreme MAGA Republicans have made their choice — to go backwards full of anger, violence, hate, and division. But we’ve chosen a different path forward, the future, unity, hope and optimism.”

“We choose to build a better America,” Biden said.

I’m old enough to remember that when Hillary Clinton lost to Trump in 2016, Democrats refused to accept that defeat. The same thing happened when George W. Bush defeated Al Gore in 2000. I think Stacey Abrams still thinks she’s governor of Georgia. For all of Biden’s huffing and puffing, sore losers are not only coming from one side of the aisle. Oversized egos overshadow reality in politics, as do threats to democracy. What about the four years of the Trump administration when Democrats and the press embraced a phony story of Trump colluding with Russia? The debunked Steele dossier that was paid for by Hillary’s campaign? Weaponizing the FBI and CIA against Team Trump in hopes of throwing the election to Hillary? Is this what democracy looks like to Joe Biden? He was happy to quietly go along with it all. He even announced his reason for running for president that was based on a lie. Biden parroted the Democrat talking point that Trump called tiki torch bearing white supremacists in a march in Charlottesville “good people”. Democrats twisted his actual statement after violence broke out at the march and a young woman was killed. Yet we are to believe that the Trump’s response to the Charlottesville march was the final straw for Biden and he just had to run and save democracy. You can’t make this stuff up. He thinks voters are dumb.

Democrats are panicked that their recent success in getting progressive legislation through Congress will be too little, too late to put a halt to losing control of Congress in November. Biden touted the American Rescue Act from almost two years ago, the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, a bipartisan law that puts billions of dollars into the domestic semiconductor industry, and the climate and healthcare bill that is supposed to reduce inflation. Will Americans choose to focus on Democrat legislative victories over the worries in their everyday lives under Joe Biden’ administration? I think voters vote with their pocketbooks. Most people are not paying attention to bills being passed in Congress. They are paying attention to the cost of buying groceries and filling up their gas tanks. One out of six households is behind on utility bills. Parents are buying back to school necessities and those expenses are all up this year. Families are having a hard time making ends meet each month and there is no end to Bidenflation in sight.

Most Democrat candidates do not want Joe Biden on the campaign trail with them. We’ll see if that changes as November gets closer, if there is any bounce in the polls for Democrats due to recent legislative victories. The White House is signaling that Biden will travel more frequently this fall, with trips already planned to Pennsylvania and Ohio.
