Mayorkas: Okay, 85% of Migrants Are Being Released

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has spent much of the past three years going in front of the cameras and lying to the American people about how the southern border is “closed” or “secure” and that none of you should believe your own lying eyes. For reasons that are not yet clear, however, Mayorkas let the mask slip fully recently. During a meeting with Border agents in Texas, he admitted that upwards of 85% of the illegal migrants encountered at the border are released into the interior of the country with only a comparative handful being expelled. Mayorkas had previously given an interview to Fox News where he said that it would “not surprise me at all” if the number being released was 70%. But the men and women working on the border knew that the number was much higher and they wanted a straight answer. (NY Post)

The Department of Homeland Security admitted “above 85%” of migrants apprehended at the southern border are being released into the United States, according to a report from Fox News.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas made the admission during a private meeting with border agents at the overrun Eagle Pass crossing in Texas on Monday, according to three people who were in the room.

The Del Rio sector where Eagle Pass lies saw more than 81,000 migrants hand themselves over seeking a new life in the US in October and November.

Mayorkas might have felt obligated to be a bit more honest because he’s facing a potential impeachment hearing in the House this year. The dereliction of duty on his part and that of the President has been shocking, but the lying and denials have only added insult to injury. People have noticed and this administration’s dismal approval numbers reflect that reality.

Still, the admission was made in private and the head of DHS probably didn’t expect the comments to reach the public. Later that same day he gave a press conference where he lied yet again. He said, “In fact, the majority of all Southwest Border migrant encounters throughout this Administration have been removed, returned, or expelled – the majority of them.”

“We are doing everything we can, within a broken system, to incentivize noncitizens to use lawful pathways, to impose consequences on those who do not, and to reduce irregular migration.”

Not a word of that is true and Mayorkas knows it, having admitted as much to his own border agents. The vast majority of illegal migrants are “paroled” into the country on the authority of Joe Biden. Most receive little or no vetting because it’s obviously impossible to fully vet tens of thousands of people per month with the personnel and resources that are available on the border.

Mayorkas also knows that we’re no longer just dealing with primarily Hispanic migrants fleeing economic woes or oppression. Migrants from China, Turkey, Afghanistan, Russia, and beyond have been arriving daily. Many of them are military-age single males. Does DHS have a “plan” to keep track of all of those people and find out what they’re up to? Of course not. That too would be an impossible task.

Unfortunately, even if the House moves forward with impeachment proceedings against Mayorkas, nothing is going to change for a couple of reasons. First of all, the Senate Democrats would never convict and remove him. And even if they did, Mayorkas isn’t the real problem despite his massive, obvious failures. We are facing this crisis because of Joe Biden’s policies and the decisions he made beginning on his first day in office. Removing him is the only path toward a solution and that can unfortunately only be done at the ballot box, leaving us another full year of this ongoing disaster. But that doesn’t mean that impeaching Mayorkas is a waste of time. If nothing else, it could further open the country’s eyes to the toxic mess that this administration has created.
