December was a BANNER month! (For illegal migrants)

The United States remains on track to continue setting all sorts of records, but they aren’t the type of achievements any sane person was hoping for. The latest blue ribbon to be awarded to the Biden administration is found in the revelation from Customs and Border Patrol that more than 250,000 “encounters” with illegal migrants along the southern border were recorded in December. That is the first time since records have been kept that this has happened. And the news comes on the heels of Joe Biden’s first-ever visit to the border, where he didn’t seem particularly concerned with all of the chaos that is unfolding because of his policies. And just for the record, that figure of 250,000 does not include the estimated 65,000 known illegal “gotaways.” So in reality, we were well over 300,000. (ABC News)

Customs and Border Protection says encounters at the Southern border surpassed 250,000 for the month of December, a quarter of a million known crossings in just a month.

Former Acting Commissioner of CBP Mark Morgan joined The National Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat Tuesday morning to discuss the migrant influx.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams visited the border over the weekend and is now calling on the Biden administration to appoint a leader from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate a national response.

Here’s the update from Bill Melugin regarding the “gotaway” number.

Personally, I’m concerned that the message is being lost here. Even with some of our liberal cable news outlets finally, grudgingly reporting on this disaster (now the election is well behind us), people may be growing numb. You can only keep hearing these numbers in the hundreds of thousands for so long before some people simply start accepting it as “the new normal.”

And for at least some Democrats, that was probably the intention all along. Keep ignoring the crisis until the entire system is simply overwhelmed and then shrug your shoulders and pretend that “it’s always been this way.”

But it hasn’t always been this way. Yes, we’ve always had a certain number of people trying to sneak over the borders and set up camp in the United States in violation of our laws. And we’ve failed to catch and deport many of them over the years. But it’s never been this bad. More illegal aliens have entered the United States in the past year than the entire population of some states. They are showing up everywhere and draining resources on a vast scale, just when many Americans can’t even make ends meet for themselves.

How and when does this somehow end? Earlier today I proposed a deal that the new House Republican Majority could make with Senate Democrats and the White House over the debt ceiling. Seal the border and put an end to the madness if you want the piggy bank to remain full. The House cannot do this on its own. Even if the GOP had also taken narrow control of the Senate, they couldn’t do it without forcing Joe Biden to come to the table and admit that this disaster is real and it was of his own making. It’s not too late to staunch the flow, but it will require serious effort to make it happen. And sadly, “serious effort” hasn’t exactly been the watchword of Washington lately.
