The latest murder spree by a formerly deported illegal alien

Well, I suppose if there’s anything positive to say here it’s that at least it didn’t happen in a sanctuary city.

A two state mass murder spree took place this week, with four people killed in a house in Kansas and another in Missouri. After a chase, the killer was brought to bay and his story will seem depressingly familiar to many readers. (Washington Post)

A Mexican national suspected of committing five homicides in Kansas and Missouri is now in custody.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed that Pablo Serrano-Vitorino was in custody in Montgomery County, Mo. He was wanted for questioning and charged with four counts of murder after a quadruple homicide in Kansas City, Kan., and another death in Missouri.

U.S. immigration officials said the man was in the country illegally. He was deported from the United States 12 years ago, the Associated Press reported, but later illegally re-entered the country.

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) previously deported Pablo Serrano-Vitorino, an illegal alien from Mexico, in April 2004, based on final orders of removal from a federal immigration judge,” ICE spokesman Gail Montenegro told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “Mr. Serrano-Vitorino illegally re-entered the United States on an unknown date.”

I really don’t even know what to say anymore when yet another of these cases comes up. Serrano-Vitorino was deported more than a decade ago and at “some point” since then the catch and release suspect came back into the United States. What he’s been up to since then is anyone’s guess, but from the sounds of it he wasn’t working on his citizenship classes or carefully keeping his visa up to date. (No.. he didn’t actually have a visa.)

More families now join the tragic but growing club which includes the relatives of Kathryn Steinle. You probably shouldn’t expect to hear much in the media about this mass shooting because it doesn’t fit the narrative which is popular on cable news or in the nation’s larger newspapers anywhere near the front page. (Give the WaPo credit for at least covering it once.) While officials haven’t confirmed it yet, I’d be willing to place a gentleman’s wager that Pablo didn’t go through the normal background check process to get his hands on that AK-47. And since he’s not a white cop shooting a person of color, the story becomes even less interesting to the press. But he did manage to kill five people in a very short period of time. If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll note that this was two more people than were killed in the Colorado Planned Parenthood shooting. Anyone care to guess which incident will receive more media coverage?

But why should I expect anything different? I think we’ve still never heard the words Bunny Friend Park cross the lips of anyone at CNN or MSNBC, and that was the third worst mass shooting of 2015. If you want to make the news these days you have to be the right sort of criminal or take out the right sort of victims. The case of Pablo Serrano-Vitorino simply doesn’t qualify.
