“[S]enators can cause you to run out the clock. But what is he trying to gain at this point”
Ayotte noted that a single senator can delay a vote in the upper chamber, which could push the United States past the Thursday deadline that the Treasury Department set to raise the debt limit.
“It is up to him,” she said on CNN’s “New Day.” “I would hope that he wouldn’t [delay a vote]. I mean in the Senate, obviously, in terms of certain timeframes, senators can cause you to run out the clock. But what is he trying to gain at this point.”
She said even if some GOP senators plan to vote against a deal, they have an obligation to allow it to come up for a vote.
