The political media’s declining power
A new Pew report on the state of the media exposes one of the worst-kept secrets in politics: reporters are losing their power to frame presidential contests for the average citizen.
“Campaign reporters were acting primarily as megaphones, rather than investigators, of the assertions put forward by the candidates and other political partisans,” according to the report. “Only about a quarter of statements in the media about the character and records of the presidential candidates originated with journalists in the 2012 race, while twice that many came from political partisans.”…
Regardless of the reasons, what’s clear from the Pew study is that the political media has less ability to play its traditional referee role than ever before. That, many people would say, is a good thing since distrust of the media is now rampant among partisans of both parties. Without the negative influence of the media, the argument goes, people can focus on the issues and where the two parties stand.

Gotta love those self-appointed gate-keepers.

I’d feel sorry for them, but they did it to themselves.

I warned in 2008 that the news media’s failure to vet Obama and it’s active roll in promoting him would destroy them.

Entertainment media has more influence on presidential politics than the news media now. The Obama Campaign did well by indulging the View and supermarket checkout media instead of the dinos – in spite of all the bootlicking they did.

In other words. The media has become nothing more than a propaganda department for the side they support and people no longer trust them. I don’t think the media not vetting BO was the cause but the media being so in love with the first black president played and continues to play a major role in all their reporting.

This says the media using their megaphone to repeat partisan statements rather than doing original reporting, not that they have less power.
If anything, it suggests they have the same or greater power (since partisan mud-slinging/fear mongering get better ratings), but are using it for more and more partisan reporting.

Did the writers somehow not see the last two Presidentia elections? That’s all they did was frame the election to their preferred candidate.

The political media’s declining power
I read the same thing all through 2012, then we had an election and I realized it wasn’t true.

Stopped reading when I saw that graph of negative remarks of candidates in 2012 and Obama tied with Romney . Never has the media printed, broadcast, or said that much negative about O.
