Against all odds, new Venezuelan president sounds even nuttier than Chavez
Nicolas Maduro said the plan was to blame his opponent’s murder on the OPEC nation’s government and to “fill Venezuelans with hate” as they prepare to vote following the death of socialist leader Hugo Chavez.
The United States denied the claim. “We categorically reject allegations of US government involvement in any plot to harm anyone in Venezuela,” State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell said.
Mr Maduro, a 50-year-old former bus driver and union leader, first mentioned a plot against his rival, Henrique Capriles, last week. He blamed it on former Bush administration officials Roger Noriega and Otto Reich. Both rejected the allegations as untrue, outrageous and defamatory.

Chavez wasn’t nearly as crazy as he looked. He was a thug and a dictator, but not a loony (at least not beyond what is typical for a leftist).
This guy is different, though. He seems genuinely deranged.

Dude questioned the moon landing, so I think that we can say he was a loon. I think that Maduro is a stupider version of Chavez. It makes sense that Chavez would have the dumb muscle as his VP and not someone who could supplant him.
As for the Capriles assasination plot, it seems to me that Maduro is trying to effectively put his main opposition under house arrest. Assign him some Chavezista thugs as bodyguards and keep him from speaking out.

Or, a premeditated excuse if Capriles happened to suddenly disappear. Good planning is essential to good government.

What’s with Hot Air’s bizarre fixation on Venezualan dictators?
As if we don’t have our own currently in the White House to worry about.
