Will GOP go back to Bush with Rubio? Or back to liberty with Paul?
No issue better illustrates Rubio’s connection to the failed Republican Washington establishment than his embrace of President Bush’s last great policy failure: amnesty for the millions of illegal immigrants currently in the United States. He is currently working with McCain on another immigration bill right now.
In contrast to his free enterprise rhetoric, however, Rubio’s immigration plan is just a continuation of the crony capitalist policies that so compromised Bush’s big government compassionate conservatism. As The Washington Examiner‘s Tim Carney notes today, Rubio’s immigration plan includes a permanent guest worker program that allows farmers to inflate their workers wages by offering something no other employer can: a path to citizenship.
Rubio’s embrace of crony capitalist policies that enrich mega-agribusiness is not new. He has long been a protector of the sugar subsidies of the sugar cane farmers that help bankroll his campaigns.

Rand Paul = Liberty!™?
That’s only a little creepy.

I’m hesitantly going with Cruz for now, I just hope he doesn’t fail and become another useless insider.
Bishop on March 15, 2013 at 1:19 PM
I’m for whoever votes NO on amnesty.

Out of all of the “possibles”, Rand Paul would not be my first choice, but, I would never even consider Rubio.
Pork-Chop on March 15, 2013 at 1:24 PM
I’m with Paul. But I gotta say, after seeing Cruz in action during the filibuster, I was mighty impressed. Ted Cruz is clearly serious about the US Constitution, and is armed with the training appropriate to its defense…

Liberty
Indeed – see the creepy Ayotte. Instead of supporting Rand Paul on the floor, as the only woman with TEA party guts…whe went to eat with the Charlatan in Chied, concurrently.

Please choose liberty.

Paul/Jindal/Cruz are all excellent choices. Rubio has establishment written all over him.

LOL. Can’t believe we’re already choosing sides.

Rubio has been rather cartoonish lately and lacks gravitas. Cruz is a nice guy and all, but his resume screams Establishment.
I’m going to have to go with Paul if I were voting today. We need an outsider and someone who would really, really shake things up.

Between Rubio and Paul, I’d go with Rubio.
Both are terrible on illegal immigration. Paul favors amnesty, Rubio’s writing the bill for it. Both are terrible on gay marriage. Paul wants to do away with marriage entirely, Rubio wants to enable the Democrats to redefine it a state at a time.
But when push-comes-to-shove, Paul’s the one who wants to legalize drugs and has a dovish foreign policy, neither of which should have any place in the GOP. Additionally, I think Rubio’s the one who’s more likely to actually do something about Roe v Wade. Paul’s only advantage over Rubio is that he’s talked about breaking up the big banks while Rubio has not.
All-in-all, I’d much sooner take Santorum, Cruz, or Jindal.

Paul’s foreign policy views, especially as concerns using the military, are far more Reagan like (and if you don’t believe that, see Reagan’s four foriegn policy principles), while Rubio’s is McCain like and would open the flood gates on American troops losing life and limb for Trillion Dollar Bridges to Nowhere.

Just a bit of info …
(I posted this on another thread yesterday)
Rand Paul has only mentioned amnesty in passing, I’m not sure that he actually “favors amnesty”, but I think is pretty clear that he does not favor the sort of very dangerous ‘instant amnesty’ that Rubio is trying to ram through.
Pork-Chop on March 15, 2013 at 3:13 PM
If Rubio actively pushes for “instant amnesty” (good phrasing Pork Chop), and Rand only gives lip service to amnesty in general, I will have to go with Rand.
