Survey: Most obese state in the U.S. is…
The national obesity rate remained steady at 26.2% in 2012, compared with 26.1% in 2011, but is still higher than the 2008 average of 25.5%. Across states, obesity rates were statistically unchanged in 2012 when compared with 2011, with the exception of four states. Obesity rates increased in New Jersey, Georgia, and North Carolina while obesity rates in Delaware decreased.
These data, collected as part of the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, are based on respondents’ self-reports of their height and weight, which are used to calculate Body Mass Index (BMI) scores. Americans who have a BMI of 30 or higher are classified as obese. Gallup and Healthways have been tracking Americans’ weight situation daily since January 2008.
Obesity rates continue to be highest in Southern and Midwestern states and lowest in Western and Northeastern states.

The states with the lowest obesity rates are the ones where you will freeze if you stand still longer than a minute.

Do you think he skewed statistics—mean, median or mode, I forgot?

Anybody click, and want to give the answer? I would, but, man, that would take a lot of work. And at my weight….
So, obesity rates are higher now than before Obama became president?
Way to go, Ms. Flotus. That whole health and nutrition campaign is working wonders. Must be all the Skittles your hubby keeps passing and his followers keep consuming. Or the fact that food stamps are apparently very fattening, given that almost twice as many people are using them as in 2008.

Had his thumb, or something, on the scale? I’m just waiting for him to weigh in on the matter….

Using bmi to calculate or report anything is just plain stupid.

A pound here, a pound there — it adds up.

Thank goodness it’s not Guam, or the island would tip over.

Funny that BMI also represents the real fat cats….

West Virginia, if you believe them.
TexasDan on March 6, 2013 at 11:23 PM
I’m surprised Texas is not higher.

Quit hating on West Virginia.

Given a choice between “New England Boiled Dinner” or fried chicken, fried catfish, fried okra, Gulf seafood, venison, duck, sweet potato chips and other things Southern well worth eating there would be a lot more Northeasterners tipping the scales too.
In micro-states like Delaware and Rhode Island the obesity rate ebbs and flows depending on whether an all you can eat restaurant stays in business in Wilmington or Providence.

I agree, but I’m still not surprised to see some of the southern states leading the way on obesity rates. Someone is always coming up with a new way to serve a heart attack on a plate down here.

I wonder if he’s discovered Krispy Kreme bacon cheddar cheeseburgers yet?
Yes, they do exist.

Ha-ha! One of the best things about living in Montana is no dieting in the winter … and winter lasts 9 months here.

Hey, I lost 30 pounds since the beginning of the year on the new Shaklee180 program. Very happy with the direction the scales are going for me!!

Are they covered in that sickly-sweet glaze like the donuts?
BDavis on March 7, 2013 at 12:51 AM
The glazed doughnut is sliced in half and used as the bun!

West Virginia, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee. What a shock the Evangelical South.
Always a kick in the nuts knowing that these people that claim “small government” not only have no problem with Big Brother forcibly redistributing the North’s wealth to the Southern states as the the South is consistently subsidized by the “maker” states, but that we also have to cover their fat asses health care because they refuse to stop eating. Type 2 Diabetes, Cardio Vascular Disease, ect, thanks to Medicade and Medicare that the South “hates” but loves to take advantage of.
TEPJoePa on March 7, 2013 at 1:15 AM
Chalk that up to the War of Northern Aggression. You have to pay the price.
John the Libertarian on March 7, 2013 at 2:46 AM
Obesity rates continue to be highest in
Southern and Midwesternstates with the highest perentages of people in the demographic most likely to be obese and lowest inWestern and Northeasternstates where fewer members of this demographic lives.Another worthless study comparing states with no regard to the makeup of those states. Here’s a stat from the CDC for Crazy Uncle TEPJoePa:
CJ on March 7, 2013 at 6:47 AM
You’re right..we should get rid of medicare, medicaid, social security and the military…because those are the programs being subsidized by the “North’s” wealth. Or at the very minimum make those toothless, in-breed bible thumping rednecks pay for their own medicare, medicaid, social security and military. Idiot.
HumpBot Salvation on March 7, 2013 at 6:51 AM
@TEPJoePa
Hey dumbfuck. Here’s the facts:
The “Evangelical South” ranks mid-to-low range. WV is higher, but not as high as your so-called “maker states”. Kiss my WV ass.
