While I truly believe from evidence I've personally observed over my short lifetime that behaviors have a genetic base, this is by no means the end for anyone.
The environment of course also determines how you will turn out half the time.

There is a reason you see cyclical poverty in some families.
If you do not actually interact in a meaningful way with children as they grow & develop, all the education in the world from the best teachers may not do much.
This is why No Child Left Behind was a miserable failure.
Bcs even if the teachers are all great, you cannot make a kid learn when they have no motivation to do so.
Think of all of the poor men & women who grew up & participated in the founding of America.
Many of them were very poor, & grew up striving to get educated & do something life changing.
Freedom creates opportunity.
But you have to be willing to take advantage of the opportunity to become successful.

Brave New World. Overcoming deterministic totalitarians is the kind of stuff of sci fi films are made.

This reminds me of an old Numbers rerun I saw the other night. A computer wiz who was writing a program to measure human success and potential to use to determine which schools to improve, etc., was murdered.

The guy who did it was another computer brain child who had grown up in a bad neighborhood—his class now in jail or dead—and the computer lab saved him. He murdered the guy because he said the programmer was killing hope.
