GOP congressman: Dick Cheney’s going to hell
“Congress will not hold anyone to blame. Lyndon Johnson’s probably rotting in hell right now because of the Vietnam War, and he probably needs to move over for Dick Cheney,” Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) said at a conference in his home state, according to the Huffington Post.
Jones, a libertarian, has been an outspoken critic of the Iraq war in recent years. He was speaking at a meeting of the Young Americans for Liberty, an offshoot of former Rep. Ron Paul’s (R-Texas) presidential campaign.

And this will get him elected, how, in a red state? Just curious.

Why are Libertarians part part of the GOP, well other than they can’t get elected as Libertarians.
RickB on February 26, 2013 at 4:25 PM
Jeez, party implosion much?
libfreeordie on February 26, 2013 at 4:25 PM
So is Jones saying that he himself is going to Hell?
rbj on February 26, 2013 at 4:25 PM
The GOP took a page from the liberaltarians: if you can’t get enough regular people to support your cause as fast as you want, adopt every nut and fruit and banana cream pie you can find who’ll agree with you on the big stuff.

Right conclusion. Wrong rationale.

Yeah, unlike hypocritical leftists, we don’t hesitate to call out our fellow Republicans when we think they’re wrong.
If the shoe were on the other foot, and some Democrat was criticizing Obama for selling access, or Bob Menendez for having sex with children, or Maxine Waters for corruption, or ….
oh, whatever.

Who cares?
Sorry, but I’m done defending Cheney..
ninjapirate on February 26, 2013 at 4:37 PM
Swell! Perhaps I’ll have an opportunity – over the course of eternal damnation – to chat with VP Cheney.

Because GOP insiders like them better than they like Conservatives. Libertarians don’t embarrass the insiders by caring about social issues and they’re easier to dismiss.

He will be easy to find since he will be running the place, having deposed Satan in a bloodless coup.

That’s it? Bush’s Iraq war and Obama’s drone policy?
Jones was the evening keynote speaker and it was listed as “My Foreign Policy Story”.
Now I can understand the libertarians’ position on the subject of foreign policy, but what I can’t understand is their almost totally obsessive-compulsive tendency to AVOID talking about the top problems, like spending, regulation overreach, and growth of government.
Rand Paul does, but, like the Stossel-Coulter meetup that Erika posted on a couple days ago, they’re always talking about other issues, not the ones that are affecting them, and all Americans, every day, 24 hours a day. I mean, I can see their position on Gay marriage and for some it might be their self-interest talking, being gay and all, but am I mistaken and didn’t know that all libertarians gay?
Seriously, when are they going to start talking about reining in deficits, reforming entitlements, and cutting back on regulations? When are they going to talk abot supporting the Keystone pipeline, repealing Obamacare or at least the birth control mandate, opposing minimum wage hikes and gun control?
It’s like they pick topics just to stand out and be contrarian and really couldn’t care less whether anything is ever accomplished, as long as the “Look at me!” works.
Here’s the agenda for the NC YAL Conference. Notice anything? The only concrete issue mentioned was Jones’ “Foreign Policy” story. Heck, the rest of the agenda could have been copied from an Amway meetup.

Jones was raised as a member of your Party; he simply abandoned your Party in order to win elections.

I’m sorry, but if you claim to follow Christ then you ought to know that’s not a decision you get to make.

Tell that to the folks at Reason. Or Ron Paul for that matter.
Much like Ron Paul, I’m sure Walter Jones talks about fiscal issues also. But the only thing the MSM is going to cover with any vigor is a foreign policy stance that, sadly, is completely at odds with most of the GOP…

Cheney will not be lonely.
ALL politicians will be there. May they all rot.
Schadenfreude on February 26, 2013 at 5:37 PM
You’re likely right, so you’d think he’d have talked about the budget at the conference, not a war that officially ended almost two years ago. Since he’s certainly operating as a Republican, you’d think he wouldn’t offer so many opportunities for his supposed opponents to cause him to fail in his libertarian efforts.
Dusty on February 26, 2013 at 5:40 PM
What the hell did Cheney do to Jones, or to anyone else for that matter?
DannoJyd on February 27, 2013 at 1:53 AM
Another libertarian self-marginalizes, for no good reason. Libertarians tend to have a strong self-destructive streak, politically speaking.
