White House releases state-by-state breakdown of sequester’s effects
The Washington area would be hit hard. Virginia, Maryland and the District cumulatively would lose $29 million in elementary and high school funding, putting at risk 390 teacher and teacher-aide jobs and affecting 27,000 students. About 2,000 poor children would lose access to early education, and less funding would mean 31,400 fewer HIV tests.
And nearly 150,000 civilian Defense Department personnel in the area would be partially furloughed through Sept. 30 — with a total average reduction in pay of $7,500. (Defense Department officials previously explained that the furloughs would probably come in the form of workers being asked to take one day off per week, amounting to a 20 percent cut in pay.)
Obama is planning to go to Newport News on Tuesday to highlight the impact of cuts.

Would that be the same area that’s been living large off looting the rest of the country?

Head Start and HIV tests? Oooooh nooooo!

So basically the cesspool of DC would be hit the hardest? Color me shocked. No wonder they don’t want this going through. I think the American people would be downright giddy over the Beltway crowd experiencing at least a sliver of what the rest of us have been going through.

I’m going to get hit with the sequester but I’ve been planning for some time now.
It’ll be hard, but it won’t be THAT hard. I’ll smile, take my furlough days and then say “See? We CAN cut spending.” (h/t American Enterprise Institute)

Lobbyists and politicians will have to cut back on their visits with prostitutes… oh no!!!

Why would anyone believe ANY numbers released by the White House to buttress its arguments?

I guess should have taken Glenn Beck’s advice more seriously. Now it’s being corroborated by the Obama Campaign.
BRB – gotta go stock up on water freeze dried food and ammo. No wait, there is no ammo. Well, I’ll go whittle a big club then.

Fortunately, Michelle Obama’s vacation budget will not be affected.
The Rogue Tomato on February 25, 2013 at 9:06 AM
Other than defense, how much constitutionally authorized spending is being affected?

Everyone received back pay last time .
I sure hope this doesn’t hurt you in any
way as I know your stance is admirable .

My dh is a civilian engineer for the DoD, so he’ll be one of those getting the 20% pay cut for the next six months. We’ll tighten our belts, but we’ve always lived below our means so we’ll be fine. We’re putting together a list of house projects (ones with low materials costs but high labor requirements like painting). And dh already talked to one of the older men at church who was looking for volunteers to help with home repairs for elderly/widows.
What I resent most isn’t the loss in hours/pay, but the fact that it’s not being spread equally across the entire government. Is Obamaphone lady getting her foodstamp rations cut by 20% for the next 6 months? Is the White House wagyu budget being cut 20? Michelle’s vacays? The EPA? (Please!) Obamacare implementation costs? Will the Obama contributors have their “green energy” grant boondoggles cut 20%? Will Planned Parenthood have its government funding cut 20%?
Mr. Obama, when you spread the cuts around, it’s better for everyone. Besides, it’s only fair.

Forgot to mention in the above that I believe the Federal government NEEDS to cut. But this is just Kabuki theatre. The government needs to cut everywhere and everything. Ironically, the places where the cuts hit hardest are the one thing (military) the Constitution actually authorizes the Federal government to do.
But that’s progressives for ya.

Why don’t Congress and the White House take a 20% cut in payroll and staffing? I almost typed that with a straight face…

Jonah Goldberg had a good line the other day calling the hysterics and threats about the sequester “junkie logic” – “I need more money for beer, and if I don’t get it, then the baby doesn’t get to eat.”

Obamaphone budget appears to be untouched.

Even if you take this at face value it just means that the public sector finally gets to experience a little bit of the pain being felt in the private sector. Remember that the stimulus was primarily devoted to protecting the public sector from feeling any affects of the crappy economy.

I read them for my state, and saw how they could directly impact me.
And I’m fine with it because it’s not as dire as Barry made it out to be.
I swear, if the guy had pulled it back and simply stated something about unclear effects, I’d be more concerned.
You can take the Community out of the Organizer, but you can’t…
or something like that.

If the Dems would to pass a budget, this would all go away.
Oh who am I kidding, that’s crazy talk.
