Sanford’s longtime friend Tom Davis, his former chief of staff, said that Sanford’s time in near-isolation was “Thoreauvian,” comparing the former governor’s days on the farm to the writer Henry David Thoreau’s psychologically therapeutic years living near Walden Pond in Massachusetts in the 1850s.

Jenny Sanford was the aggrieved spouse. I had no problem with her going public with it. However, then she wouldn’t shut up about it even though she had 4 minor kids. Bad form.

Oh please – Mark Sanford is a jackass, and a nitwit, and his wife is a nitwit – based on my own first hand conversations with them both at fund raising cocktail parties on the Isle of Palms. The two of them them are the prototypical political husband and wife – completely self absorbed and without an ounce of interest in their constituents.
