“We are just saying … give us flexibility to make the cuts where they will do the least harm to our citizens”
The governors put aside their partisan disagreements and united in sending an urgent message to Congress.
“We do need to get our national deficit down,” Ms. Fallin said, “but give us flexibility. Relax those mandates. Give us some leeway.”
Gov. John W. Hickenlooper of Colorado, a Democrat, agreed that the federal deficit and debt were “a serious risk,” saying, “We recognize that we will have to be part of the solution and share the pain.”
But Mr. Hickenlooper said the across-the-board cuts were a blunt instrument. “Sequestration was originally designed by both the administration and Congress as something so odious, so repellent, that it would force both sides to a compromise,” he said.

Oh puhleeeze…
If everyone is losing their freaking mind over these tiny cuts in growth, imagine the histrionic fits if they were actual cuts in spending from the previous year.
They’d be on the floor kicking and screaming like a 3 year old in the candy aisle of the grocery store.

What this NYT article fails to mention is that Dear Leader had a batch of Democrat Governors visit him for a private briefing on Friday afternoon.
No doubt to make sure they all had their Sequester Fear Mongering Faces on straight.

Instead of a 4% rise in spending they get a 2% rise in spending. The results are everyone crying the sky is falling. Well I looked outside today and the sky is still where it belongs and is definitely not falling. The politicians and news people need to get a real life.

Stop counting on the federal government. Sure, I know that it is your money that you sent to D.C., I suggest in the future that you consider it like a loan to your brother-in-law. Gone.

Your FLEXIBILITY went away when you gave up your right to APPOINT Senators idiots.
If you want flexibility, reclaim your power and reduce the power Washington has. Until then, I will not entertain the idea you need to be given sympathy.
I fear the thing that needs to happen is the failure of the entire government though before you actually choose to do your duties Governors!

Obama probably briefed them on how to use sequestration to inflict maximum pain on unfavored constituencies.

And I’m sure all of these governors follow Rick Perry’s lead and reject federal funding when they understand it has strings attached? Boo-hoo.
