To which Texas Republican Gov. Rick Perry emits a hearty guffaw. Texas going blue, he says, “is the biggest pipedream I have ever heard.”…
“The University of Texas will change its colors to maroon and white before Texas goes purple, much less blue,” he said in an interview on the edges of the National Governors Association winter summit in Washington, D.C…
“It’s because of freedom,” he says. “People in Texas truly aspire to freedom. They don’t want government coming in and telling them how much of this or how much of that.”

I agree with the Governor, and here’s why:
1. Houston–Houston annexes its suburbs in order to have that tax base at its disposal. In return, Houston takes a lot fewer steps than other central cities of comparable size to alienate those suburbanites and their tax money out of those annexed suburbs into the non-annexed suburbs. For being the fourth-largest city in the US, Houston only barely went for 0bama. Houston can’t go full Chicago without well-heeled Clear Lake, the borderlands with Katy, and Spring finding a way to re-incorporate or join neighboring suburbs.
2. Austin–A lot of California businesses, who import their gentry liberal Californian honchos into Texas, are encouraged to move primarily into Austin. Austin has been lefty since 1960-something, and a few more blue voters here makes absolutely no difference. Even with the current state of growth, it will be a long long time before Austin is of a size to where a bunch of Melowese Richardsons east of I-35 can steal the entire state. I work for Travis County Elections, and I see firsthand the steps they take to keep elections honest. Between Austin’s size and its vote being split up with the latest Texas maps, you can dump a lot of Blue into Austin without taking the state.
3. Dallas-Fort Worth–There is a little bit of Californication involved here, but a lot of suburban growth in Collin, Denton, and other surrounding counties. I lived in the Metroplex for seven years, and I still have to bust out a map program when I visit my cousin. Her part of Denton County was trees when I moved to Austin.
4. If we avoid amnesty, a lot of illegal aliens are getting ready to leave. The drop in births among Hispanic immigrants in 2010, without a drop in the number of females of childbearing age, is indicative to me of families being done with their childbearing here and preparing to go back.
5. Sneering works. Most liberals who have never been to Texas think of Texas as their personal equivalent of a Hell they pretend not to believe in. Californians and other lefties who come to Texas are largely dragged here by their relocating businesses. The locust voters who flee failing states will often choose to go anywhere but a Texas that Rachel Maddow tells them will l y n c h them merely for existing.

Where’d that data come from? Are you aware 3/4th of the births at Parkland in Dallas are to Hispanics?
That’s 75 percent.

Texas won’t go blue ever. What some people don’t realize is that Texas already has a very large 2nd and 3rd generation Hispanic population, that have trended further and further to the right. By the time, Texas hispanics become a majority, most of them will already be assimilated in to TX as 2nd-3rd-4th generation hispanics.
So realistically, TX will never go blue.

I am here to bring much needed HONESTY to the arguments laid out here.
Many of the legal immigrants come here with those intentions. The illegal ones and a large number of the legal ones come here with the intention of reaping everything they can with nary a care about what they leave behind.
Much like the idiots in California leave looking for greener pastures to plunder, they show up and start voting for the same policies that destroyed California. Like the Chicago transplants leave in order to have a chance to avoid the gangs, only to bring the gang members with them, as it was THEIR children who were the problem all along.
You are no libertarian, you are an anarchist with no valuable views on the world at large, just your own little misconceptions to throw around.

steebo77 is absolutely right, illegals are from the land of the patron and the peon, here to suck on the welfare tit, they give their loyalty to the ones who will give them more. They have been bombarded with La Raza propaganda that the Yankee took what belonged to them thus to break their laws is morally correct and they are aided by hispanic progressives.,
Granted there are a miniscule amount that believe in the American dream but that’s it.
Sekhmet makes some good points but that’s a BIG IF about avoiding amnesty. The mainstream GOP has caved and IMHO amnesty is a done deal. The majority of them would sell their mothers to keep their seat and to hell with the beliefs that made this country what it is.
The mayor of San Antonio is being groomed as the Texas obama, he’s pretty, photogenic and reads the prompter well. He’s also a socialist. Can anyone name me ONE Texas politician who is a counter to him?
I’m Texan born and bred, proud of it but we have a tendency to talk big. God yes, may we remain the TEXAS we think we are, but the future bears watching.

Texas is the prime example that small government can be SOLD to Hispanics. Hell – just about everyone in Texas has some Hispanic in them.
