How will Republicans win in 2024?
Vox Populi, Georgetown University’s weekly newsmagazine, wrote up my recent visit with the school’s College Republicans:
“Not only did Frum say that such a candidate will be elected, Frum said that such a shift in the party is inevitable: “The sheer competitive dynamic of the two party system will force the Republicans to retool,” Frum said. “It’s just a matter of time.” He went on to say that the Republican presidential candidate in 2024 will undoubtedly be “pro-gay marriage,” “pro-environment,”and “pro-gun control.” Frum views his role in this process of change as being the one who could potentially speed it up, so that the Republicans “modernize” their positions before 2024.”

i.e., in 2024, Barack Obama will endorse the GOP candidate for President.

With Obamacare – there will be no more “Liberal” or “Conservative” – only two parties that compete for votes over who can run the Social Welfare State better. Make no mistake – many Republicans want this. This is why 1/3 of them just voted to raise taxes on their supporters so that more entitlements can be given to Democrat constituents.
When Romney refused to go after Obama even 1/2 as hard as he did Newt, the Republican party died. Time to put it to bed with the Whigs and start anew.

There is almost no chance there will be a functioning Republican party in 2024, there likely will not be a function America either. I figure at best 2022 is about as long as the unsustainable can be sustained.

Mark it down and see if you are correct by those dates.

David Frum is aware that the Northeastern Establishment and the Blue State Model is in decline, right? Does he just say these things for $$$ knowing that’s what his hosts want to hear?
Punchenko on February 24, 2013 at 5:08 PM
There’s not going to be a social welfare state in the future. Our current demographic trajectory — not to mention our financial standing which is related to demographics — will not support such a system going forward.
Best case scenarios we become like Texas. Worst case scenario we turn into a bankrupt California made up of plutocrats and peasants.
Punchenko on February 24, 2013 at 5:11 PM
So is Frum assuming that a democrat will win in 2016 and 2020?

The Russian drunk had it right. The US will be several countries by 2024.
I’ll live in one of the Free states.

The Republican party may in fact win on a pro-gay marriage, pro-environment, pro-gun control platform in 2024.
But the Conservative party will be sure to sweep the ’26 midterms.
Gingotts on February 24, 2013 at 5:17 PM
The FACT is that the Republican presidential candidate in 2024 WILL undoubtedly be “pro-gay marriage,” “pro-environment,”and “pro-gun control if more Americans do not get involved NOW.

If that’s what America will be like in 2024, I would prefer Mad Max.
OldEnglish on February 24, 2013 at 5:30 PM
Does that mean the Democrat candidate will be an outright communist, proposing to do away with private property?
Count to 10 on February 24, 2013 at 5:38 PM
Be careful of what you wish for. You will probably get that wish.
DannoJyd on February 24, 2013 at 5:45 PM
How will a Democrat compete in 2016 after the incipient theocracy takes over?
Bwahahahaha! You start off by making us squirm by having a point of sorts, and then you go to that. Typical Frum.
Pro gay marriage? A bold statement, but plausible. Pro gun-control? Side-splitter. Pro-environment? My brain just exploded. First of all, what does that even mean? Which Republican candidate of the last 40 years hasn’t bent over equally deep toward the mecca of The Earth and Our Natural Resources? Second, if you’re talking about actually impoverishing the nation, what Democrat has actually had the guts to push for it, meaningfully? Third, if you’re assuming the Democrat will be a real eco-warrior by 2024, you’re making a mighty bold statement, given that Obama is having to summon all his ideological obstinancy to be “pro-environment” now.

So Marco Rubio will be such a successful President that not only will he win two terms but he’ll win a third term through his successor in 2024.

Modify the scenario to include plenty of fuel and ammo, and I’ll grow my own food. Seriously, I would rather the savages come out into the sunlight, rather than plot in the shadows.

Depends on what the country looks like after the Civil War.

They are doing BOTH today as witnessed by the cities with the increased violence leading to higher murder rates.
I’m sorry but I feel badly for the victims and their families even if they are getting what they voted for.

You remind me of how GLAD I am that I moved out of Illinois, the land of the 66.6 BILLION Dollar Tax increase and having the murder capital of America as one of its proud achievements, 2 decades ago.
DannoJyd on February 24, 2013 at 6:15 PM
can we focus on 2016 first?
or better yet, the 2014 midterms??

So, that’s what it looks like in the uppity DC/NYC bubble.

Maybe, who knows and who cares..
If pro-environment means pro-man made global warming, than god I hope not. That is like being pro-chasing in witches.
No…Democrats need to worry about that one not the GOP.
