WWE to Glenn Beck: Come to our show and explain why our tea-party character is offensive
On his show Wednesday, Beck accused WWE of degrading tea partiers with a racist, unrealistic caricature.
“I can take it from a lot of people. I can’t take it from the stupid wrestling people,” Beck said on his show. Beck suggested that WWE risks alienating much of its fan base, supposing WWE fans lean conservative.
WWE, in turn, essentially invited Beck to come tell a WWE audience why he called them stupid.
“WWE has extended an invitation to talk show host and political commentator, Glenn Beck to appear live this Monday on Raw, in response to a segment that aired on TheBlaze TV yesterday,” WWE announced.
WWE went on, explaining its creation of an overtly racist character: “WWE is creating a rivalry centered on a topical subject that has varying points of view. This storyline was developed to build the Mexican American character Del Rio into a hero given WWE’s large Latino base, which represents 20 percent of our audience.”

In what universe is a “rivalry” based on racism a good idea?
Cindy Munford on February 23, 2013 at 1:59 PM
At least ABC is covering the really important stuff like this.
That silly stuff like Benghazi, Fast & Furious, Hagel’s imcompetence, etc. can be covered by serious news agencies like Jon Stewart.
ButterflyDragon on February 23, 2013 at 1:59 PM
Have they done those types of characters? I can’t believe people still watch.
Cindy Munford on February 23, 2013 at 2:00 PM
I guess when you’ve lost two Senate races you give up and no longer plan to compete in any GOP primaries. Then it becomes safe to start trashing conservatives.
Mark1971 on February 23, 2013 at 2:02 PM
Beck would be better served not even commenting on this. WWE is an entertainment company that will take advantage of any and all topical discussion. Years ago, they even made the hyper patriot charachter Sgt Slaughter into a heel around the 1st Gulf War.
Beck risks being ridiculed mercilessly before a larger audience than he has.
john1schn on February 23, 2013 at 2:04 PM
Are you kidding? I don’t even like it and I know they are equal-opportunity offenders.
thebrokenrattle on February 23, 2013 at 2:05 PM
Yes, and as counterpoint, we will physically intimidate you!
Stossel once got boxed ears for calling fake wrestling fake. The guy argued that because the pain in Stossel’s ears was real, wrestling was real.
You can’t argue with logic like that.
Axeman on February 23, 2013 at 2:05 PM
WWE just wants the publicity. Screw ‘em.
Blake on February 23, 2013 at 2:07 PM
I guess we can be thankful the wwe didn’t use that gosh horrible name for their character some use for those of us in the TP?
Thanks Glenn for standing up for us.

The WWE makes its money by pandering to children and stupid adults. They don’t give a rip about accuracy or fairness, and Glenn is just handing them free publicity. I wouldn’t be surprised if they concocted a new character based on him.
RadClown on February 23, 2013 at 2:23 PM
Perhaps it is time to start letting sponsors (advertisers) know that WWE is offensive!
jaydee_007 on February 23, 2013 at 2:23 PM
Lol, its WWE. Don’t get sucked into it, Beck. They’ll just use you. Talk bout radical capitalists. Lol
tommy71 on February 23, 2013 at 2:38 PM
It’s offensive because it was created by a bunch of wet-diapered a$$monkeys who, in more enlightened ages, would have been shot or shish-kebabed in a duel of honor.
MelonCollie on February 23, 2013 at 2:41 PM
Here are some characters that the WWE wouldn’t have any trouble understanding as offensive:
Obama Phone black lady – Shaquanda “smack-tastic” Jones
Obama worshiping Latino man – Rodriguez “the spic-tacular” Gonzalez
Weight of Glory on February 23, 2013 at 2:41 PM
Continuing with this is playing right into WWE’s hands. Let them eat silence.
And I suppose Linda McMahon has given up on her political aspirations. I’d never support her after this.
Vegi on February 23, 2013 at 2:43 PM
He should NOT show up. If he does, I guarantee you they will hurt him. They’ll body slam him, or spit in his face, or some other act to cuase pain and insult. And they don’t care if they get sued, the advertising and the free news coverage will be worth it to them.
Glenn – do NOT go.

“Zeb Coulter”s speech sounds familiar. Gee, maybe thats because its heard on this very website from hordes of commenters here every day.
The FACE characters are the ones who pander to the children and stupid adults. Think John Cena. The more cynical fans, who like intrigue and betrayal and hearing grandstanding insults, prefer the HEEL characters. Swagger is being cast as the heel while del Rio is being cast as the face.
Before you all get you panties in a twist you might want to get at least cursorily acquainted with your villian of the week. Or just listen to Beck the retard the same way your liberal counterparts unquestiongly devour anything Maddow spews and reflexively jump to whatever BS cause he tells you to.
Daikokuco on February 23, 2013 at 3:27 PM
Hey everybody, look, its one of those dumb Americans who actually thinks pro-wrestling is “real”!
Daikokuco on February 23, 2013 at 3:28 PM
Have you learned to flip that shrimp into your pocket or make the onion volcano yet.
RickB on February 23, 2013 at 3:32 PM
Ah, contempt for the food service industry. Contempt for working Americans. Please state your party affiliation, douchebag.
Daikokuco on February 23, 2013 at 3:35 PM
Just for morons like you.
RickB on February 23, 2013 at 3:47 PM
So you think the cynical, mature WWE fans of the late 80′s were actually rooting for the Iron Sheik?
Good Solid B-Plus on February 23, 2013 at 3:53 PM
Mr. Beck: WWE is just entertainment. Ignore them. To the WWE, there is no such thing as “bad publicity.” All they want is for someone, anyone, to talk about them. Don’t take the bait.
Captain Kirock on February 23, 2013 at 3:53 PM
Wait…WWE is only worthy of ridicule now that they’ve got a Tea Party charicature?

I watched a little bit of wrestling when I was a kid, eventually I couldn’t stand the site of all the clearly choreographed and staged “1….2…. OHHHHHH he got back up” moves. Predictable to the last drop!
cableguy615 on February 23, 2013 at 4:31 PM
How about you know what the hell you’re talking about before you make stupid and presumptuous remarks? First of all, I don’t even listen to Beck. He’s not my cup of tea. Second, please excuse me for not being familiar with the psychological intricacies of a live-action cartoon. If I knew you would take my criticisms so personally, I might have been a bit more delicate. Actually, no I wouldn’t. Retard indeed.
RadClown on February 23, 2013 at 4:33 PM
Guys, Beck has already responded and expressed his regret that he won’t be able to attend because, in his words, “unfortunately I am currently booked doing anything else.” It seems that Monday night is a prime hair washing night in the Beck household.
PerceptorII on February 23, 2013 at 4:52 PM
Oops. Almost forgot. Link.

People need to stop getting so uptight about this. WWE has stereotyped pretty much every group in existence. Ticked off muslim-Muhammad Hassan. Racist black panthers-Nation of Domination. Short Japanese people that speak english like they do in the Godzilla movies with mismatched overdubs-Kaientai. They’re more like South Park in that they go after everybody than the rest of entertainment which is a constant conservative bash fest. I have no problem in a show mocking conservatives, if they go after other groups as well.
