LA Cardinal Mahony calls himself a “scapegoat” of Church’s sex-abuse scandal
“This scandal is putting us, the clergy and the church, where we belong — with the excluded ones,” he added. “Jesus was painted with the same brush as the two thieves crucified with him.”
The Surviviors Network of those Abused by Priests slammed the language.
“It’s hurtful and disingenuous for Mahony to claim he’s been scapegoated,” said director David Clohessy. “He’s been a bishop for almost 40 years and the sole head of America’s largest archdiocese for more than a quarter century. Few, if any, U.S. Catholic prelates have been more powerful than Mahony. So for him to somehow pretend to be a powerless pawn is pathetic.”
Fueling the latest round of criticism of Mahony is last month’s release of reams of confidential personnel files that, according to Reuters, showed Mahony and an aide, Thomas Curry, worked to send priests accused of abuse out of California to shield them from law enforcement scrutiny in the 1980s.

A guy who shielded pedophiles is just like Jesus?
This guy needs to be removed for his pathetic understanding of the Bible if nothing else.

Indeed.
A guy who actively helped criminals escape justice for years now trys calling himself a scapegoat. The audacity is blinding.

Wait. I just heard that two days ago re. Hagel—”he’s the best we are going to get.” 21st century, humanity really is getting better.

Everyone of these pedophile-enabling aholes should be in jail — for life.
I note that Mahoney is also the biggest fan and supporter of illegal aliens in LA.
“Laws? What laws? We don’t need no stinkin’ laws!”
A pox on all of them.

Mahony can’t even get his Bible veres stright. One thief mocked Jesus, the other went with him to paradise. Mahony says he belongs with the thieves, but it can’t be both, and he doesn’t mention which one.

IF Mahony had any shame, he would JUST SHUT UP!!
Dante had a Pope or two in Hell. I suspect Mahony will go join them.

Wow, this election is getting exciting. I wonder what faction Mahony backs.
If Jesus had spent decades aiding and covering for the thieves, he would deserve the same brushwork.

I think he already has been removed. The current archbishop of Los Angeles is a guy named Jose Gomez. Part of the reason why Mahony is back in the news is because his successor, Gomez, called him out about it after releasing a bunch of documents earlier this month going back to the ’80s about Mahony’s molester-shuffling.

If a living Pope meets the Son of Man who bows to whom?

If he was reporting to Peter or Paul, either of them would have called for Satan himself to come take them. For that matter, he’s exactly what Jesus was referring to being cast into deep waters with a millstone tied to the neck.
Problem is that the church has lost the power of faith. The little tiny bit yet strong enough to move mountains, perform miracles and yes even strike down someone or something in wrath. But to do that also means having faith and priorities in order. Maybe the church will regain that faith once they begin excommunicating the unbelievers as proscribed by the scriptures. Until then they will get dogged by scandals.
