If America was a start-up we’d all quit
America is an unsolvable problem, a nation divided and deeply in hate with itself. If it was a startup we’d understand how unfixable the situation is, most of us would leave for a fresh start and the company would fall apart.
America is MySpace.
But leaving America means renouncing your citizenship, moving out of the country and leaving family and friends behind. You can retain your citizenship if you like, but you’ll still be away from loved ones and still be paying taxes. You lose all the good stuff about America and have to keep all the bad stuff.
I love this country but we have a management team that’s both evil and incompetent. And the way “stockholder rights” are implemented there’s absolutely no way to stop or even slow down the rush to misery. I wish people had the choice of voting with their feet. This tends to keep the individual states somewhat honest in their dealings with citizens because they have to compete against 49 other states. But there’s no escaping the fed. It’s like a startup where everyone is miserable but no one is allowed to quit.

The solution is actually very simple.
Red states leave the union and form a new nation under an explicitly anti-progressive constitution, and the blue states continue what they’re doing.
Done.

The nasty thing about leaving is that just about anywhere else can barely hold a candle to our prosperity and freedom (yes, even now!) and has likely become very dependent on the world’s babysitter.

Blue states are bankrupt, and there wouldn’t be any popular support for a war.

An’ anyways One Reb is worth TEN Yankees….Dream World, Dream on…

This has stopped them from doing what, exactly?
Do not equate a very real lack of support against faceless terrorists halfway around the world with a perceived lack of support for a c1v1l war.
Nobody but Code Stink cares what happens overseas anymore. But they will care very d@mn much if Texas were to announce independence in the next half-hour.

Most progressives would cheer, without these pesky red-state republicans in congress 0bama could bring forth the promised socialist golden age.
Moreover, red states are more solvent, the balance of population has shifted to the South, has manufacturing and agriculture, and a very large population of combat veterans.
No blue state mother is going to welcome having their son die trying to keep Texas in the union, not in today’s internet age.

Their early commanders were, actually, especially Lee. But they had the short straw on logistics.
You wanna s3cede, grab the right infrastructure and factories and guard them more than Fort Knox.

Plus Michael Arrington is an @rse…really this place “sucks.” Hey Michael move to Sweden…oh that’s right, too much regulation…well move to Britain…oh no First Amendment and taxes too hi..Well the EU…OK it’s even worse than Britain…Latvia, it’s very free market…oh borders on Russia, may not be safest place…Well there’s still New Zeeland…fairly free-market, fairly developed, lovely country…
The reality is, Michael is talking out of his butt, just like the Baldwins or the Streisands…at the end of the day the Good Ole US of A is STILL the overall sweet spot to be in…despite the best efforts of the Ruling Class.
JFKY on February 23, 2013 at 4:50 PM
I hate Michael Arrington, but I agree… except no other place is really better from materialistic POV… except Australia(for for how long?)
I’d love to see the Russians set aside one semi-autonomous province next-door to China to be a dual-language(Russian-English) Start-up Oblast and try to brain drain disaffected skilled people from the West.

Chile may be another good country on the list.

Get over your Putin hatred…

I’ve seen this before with friends.
Step 1 is realizing the country is f-ed.
Step 2 is realizing there is nowhere else you would rather live.
Step 3 is realizing the federal govt. is the problem.
Step 4 is becoming a small government conservative.
He’s almost there.
WisCon on February 23, 2013 at 5:12 PM
But unlike a startup, we own the company, not management. So we can vote them out, and if that doesn’t work, we’ll force them out.
RadClown on February 23, 2013 at 5:15 PM
Step 5 is realizing that there is nothing we can do about it because it’s a lot more seductive to become a moocher and vote for large-eared politicians who hand out government cheese, Obamaphones, and promise to loot those “greedy” rich people to pay for it.

Nobody beats the feds. They can destroy anyone, at any time.

He’s already a libertarian IIRC…
There’s really nothing that can be done…

Getalife.
MelonCollie on February 23, 2013 at 5:33 PM
It’s a little dangerous to think this way… I’d rather put the blame at the feet of elites.
And it’s also seductive to pay the government off to get rich…
And it’s also seductive to pay illegal immigrants(whose descendants are likely to stay lower class and need the government) over citizens to get rich.
And the biggest reason I’m alienated from American Democracy….
And it’s also seductive to bypass democracy itself and resort to media, academic, and judiciary control to run the country.
ninjapirate on February 23, 2013 at 5:35 PM
Ninjapirate, it ain’t just PUTIN, you galoot..or did you miss the last two hundred years of Russian/Soviet history?
JFKY on February 23, 2013 at 5:52 PM
Here are the big cases that have completely alienated me from American Democracy.
1. Illegal immigrant children must be educated in public schools at taxpayer dime- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plyler_v._Doe
2. Prop 187(the effort to keep illegals from using state government services) unenforced because judiciary and politics – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_187_(1994)#Legal_challenges
3. Massachusetts court legalizes gay marriage, and the Democrats stop it from being voted on.
4. Massachusetts Tells Catholic Church it Must Permit Homosexual Adoption – lifesitenews.com/news/archive//ldn/2006/feb/06022010
5. Christian groups can’t be Christian groups at public universities. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Legal_Society_v._Martinez
6. ObamaCare upheld.
Enjoy your life being hijacked.
Even if Putin is deluded, you know he’s acting in the interests of his people…
We can’t do that here… our elites are completely untrustworthy… our elites gleefully suck out souls like vampires.
I get that… but in the long run the EU is worse than Russia. The former CIS countries that want to keep the cultures would be smart to unite against the EU.
We still need to go to war with Marxism… Cultural Marxism is still a problem… and it has mostly infected western nations and needs to be actively opposed.
ninjapirate on February 23, 2013 at 6:02 PM
Maybe, but I’d still rather be here. At some point, the freebies will become more expensive for the middle class than had they not existed, and at the point the GOP will have a chance to regain control.
