GOP Rep. Bob Goodlatte: The House will act on gun legislation
“The Congress is going to act on this issue,” Goodlatte, R-Va., said in a telephone interview with CQ Roll Call. “The Senate is at work on it, and we are as well. Our goal is to do anything we can do keep firearms out of the hands of people who should not have them.”…
Goodlatte himself, who has an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association, told CQ Roll Call four days after the Connecticut shooting that “gun control is not going to be something that I would support.” He struck a more conciliatory tone on Friday.
“I wouldn’t draw any conclusions about what we’ll do with gun laws,” Goodlatte said. “Our point is that as we look at legislation to prevent tragedies like Newtown and other crimes that occur with these guns, we should first be looking at what’s being done to enforce the laws that we have.”
He said Republicans are open to new gun laws, “but we do not want to write new laws that are not going to be enforced, number one, and we don’t want to write new laws that aren’t going to work, number two.”

Great.
Well looks like things go underground a la 1920s.

Yesterday, C-SPAN broadcast (and re-played) a lengthy press conference of black second-amendment advocates–many of them pastors. It was led by Star Parker.
I encourage you to find a replay of it sometime this weekend or to view it online. It was pretty darned good.

Of course they will. They hate the Constitution as much as the Democrats. That’s become very clear. Republicans can expect no support from me in future. For the first time in my life I may sit the next election out if all we have are statists running.

Smells like TREASON.
Pork-Chop on February 23, 2013 at 12:19 PM
And, yes, I know. We had two statists last time, but that was the last time I intend to enable them. We failed to take Big Daddy Statist and replace him with Adolescent Statist, so I’m not playing anymore.

This.
But hey it makes them feel and look beter.

I hope Bob enjoys his last term in Congress. This should all but enure a “spirited” primary.
dczombie on February 23, 2013 at 12:27 PM
This is some clown show the House Rs are putting on. They are not even remotely serious about honoring their oaths, and doing their jobs.
We are going to punish them for this, plain and simple. We have no choice anyway.
rightwingyahooo on February 23, 2013 at 12:29 PM
And that legislation will fail to pass the House.
tommy71 on February 23, 2013 at 12:30 PM
He’s never been a real conservative, but he’s not losing his seat any time soon. He trounced the more conservative Republican that ran against him in the 12 primary. Even though his district is very conservative. He’s sort of like McCain, he spouts really good conservative rhetoric around election time.
But his votes are always with bigger government, more government control. Sadly, the power of incumbency will keep him in office until he decides to leave it.

Modern America, turning Citizens into Criminals one law at a time.
A pox on all their houses. I suspect that revolution is in the air.

The repubs continue to ignore the Constitution and act like royals. Whatever they want to do, the people must accept the mandates of the lords. Time for the end of the GOP.

Since the government ignores more than 11 million illegals, wonder what they will do about millions of gun owners who don’t want to obey the newest gun legislation?

The GOP is giving up on issue after issue: gun control, Hagel, immigration. What’s the point of supporting them?
Tasha on February 23, 2013 at 1:06 PM
They don’t want to write laws that won’t be enforced? I call b.s., y’all do it every day and immigration is the number one example.

After Bill Clinton’s “Assault Weapon” ban the Democrats lost the House for the first time in 40 years. When Democrats were still looking for even more gun controls/bans he asked them how many more seats do you want to lose?
Now the question is to you Republicans, how many seats do you want to lose? When you lose the House, you will have exactly zero levers of power in DC.

When all is said and done, DC’s gop are no better than DC `rats. They don’t want the People to be able to resist their unconstitutional edicts either.
wildcat72 on February 23, 2013 at 2:09 PM
Those in Washington, DC are literally fiddling while Rome burns.
Their time is coming short. By flying into utter PANIC! over cutting out a mere $40 billion in INCREASES in the face of a $1.2 TRILLION annual deficit they are proving to the world that our debt WILL NEVER BE PAID and that there should be ZERO faith and trust in the US Dollar and in our Treasuries. What will come of that is, of course, obvious: TOTAL economic ruin on the scale of the Weimar Republic times a CONTINENT sized country with 300 million people.
wildcat72 on February 23, 2013 at 2:13 PM
I changed my registration after the November debacle. I will no longer vote as a Republican. I’ll vote for individuals who “get it” (such as Rand Paul) but there is NO WAY I’ll vote for McConnell.
Given that we are so far gone with no way to fix this mess anyway given the public’s refusal to cut one iota of government spending, quicker bankruptcy is in the national interest. I think I may actually start voting Democrat just to hasten that along.
I think I’m going to vote for Ashley Judd, as a vote for “Let It Burn!”
wildcat72 on February 23, 2013 at 2:17 PM
Sadly, something dawned on me today. Most repubs don’t care if they hold the majority or not—-as long as they still get to be a representative/senator.
arnold ziffel on February 23, 2013 at 3:00 PM
Why is this news?
They’ve screwed you all over and over again, and like battered wives you keep going back.
Why complain?
The GOP will betray you
True_King on February 23, 2013 at 3:01 PM
I did that in 1992 in disgust with the GOP then. I was in CA at the time. That meant I voted for Perot, Feinstein and Boxer since both Senate seats were up that year. I learned my lesson on protest votes.

Made a bad impression on me at first, but I wonder…
Why play into the Democrat/MSM narrative of unreasonable Republican obstructionism?
I take hope at his comments about enforcing the laws we have on the books. House Republicans will have a perfect opportunity to expose the record of Obama and Holder’s DOJ when it comes to prosecuting criminals attempting to obtain guns.
When they have over 70,000 potential cases of felons or other prohibited persons attempting to buy guns and prosecute only 22, they aren’t enforcing the law.
If they were really interested in preventing gun crime and protecting people from violence, wouldn’t putting these people in jail be helpful?
Republicans have the opportunity to humiliate these scumbags. They need to be smart, avoid the Democrat/MSM narrative, and strike back.
