I recall Benny Goodman testifying (in Chicago I think) decades ago about just such a move – and I’m sure the tactic is a lot older than that. It’s part of the plot of the mediocre Mr. Holland’s Opus.

It’s a tactic of the left. If by any chance it happens the media will be printing horrible stories about the hardships suffered, many of them simply reprints of government employee union press releases.

This is all geared as a massive Washington Monument Syndrome case study.

Cooper acknowledges that government does “piss away lots of money”. Yet that’s not where the cuts will take place – those programs etc. will be funded but visible stuff that makes good politics will be cut.

Let them play their game and the low information voters lap it up. If/when Boehner caves it will just have us double down and circle the drain that much faster.
