Bobby Jindal and Rand Paul camps start the 2016 sparring
Rare public glimmerings of this could be seen during Rand Paul’s State of the Union rebuttal, billed as the official Tea Party response, which didn’t go over well with a few political hands connected to Jindal.
“[A]nd now for the rebuttal to the GOP response from 2016 Libertarian Party Nominee Rand Paul #sotu,” tweeted Brad Todd a principal at On Message Inc., a Republican media firm whose clients include Jindal (they’ve helped Paul as well, though he wasn’t a client: On Message made television ads paid for by the National Republican Senatorial Committee that supported Paul in his Senate race). …
“I don’t see Bobby Jindal being much of a player on Rand or Marco’s side of the field,” said one senior Republican operative associated with Paul. “Quite frankly I see him as the 2016 version of Tim Pawlenty without the Minnesota nice.”

Hee.. That exit quote about Jindal is priceless; he really is a whiny version of Pawlentry. I’m acutally surprised he hasn’t started sniping at the Savior.

Oh, my — that’s a little harsh!
Punchenko on February 21, 2013 at 10:40 AM
“The Savior”. Boy, are you ever jinxing that nerd.
ddrintn on February 21, 2013 at 10:45 AM
Quite frankly I see it all as a reprise of the 2012 Klown Kar.
ddrintn on February 21, 2013 at 10:46 AM
I concur even though I do like Paul.
Jindal is the more accomplished gentleman and if he runs I expect the ‘moderates’ [Karl Rove!!!] to crucify him as only a true racist could.
DannoJyd on February 21, 2013 at 10:49 AM
Rubio is a lot of things, but I wouldn’t consider him a nerd. (And I enjoy giving politicians nicknames.)
Illinidiva on February 21, 2013 at 10:50 AM
Great!
Either one will be a great VP when Palin is nominated.
Palin 2016

Jindal is an establishment right of center Republican. He was most definitely being groomed to run for President since he was in his twenties. And he would definitely be the frontrunner in 2016 if Charlie Crist was the current junior Senator from Florida. However, Marco Rubio burst onto the scene and I don’t think that Jindal can handle it. He has developed an unpleasant whiny tone recently.
Illinidiva on February 21, 2013 at 10:56 AM
If its between Governor Jindal and Senator Paul, I’ll go with the Governor.
tommy71 on February 21, 2013 at 10:57 AM
Alright, this thread is just getting too silly.
BigGator5 on February 21, 2013 at 10:58 AM
He’s a good guy and all, but he’s nerdy. And did you call Mitt the Most High God or anything?
ddrintn on February 21, 2013 at 10:58 AM
No.. Romney’s nickname is Mittens. And the Savior is a funny nickname that shouldn’t be taken seriously.
Illinidiva on February 21, 2013 at 11:07 AM
Oh, you’re darn right it shouldn’t be. Sounds more like a bitter joke, sort of like “Mitt the Electable”.
ddrintn on February 21, 2013 at 11:11 AM
Kind of like Rubio, and Ryan as well for that matter.
xblade on February 21, 2013 at 11:30 AM
Umm… A current U.S. Senator and the Chairman of the House Budget Committee should both be taken seriously. Former overpaid TV analysts on the other hand..
Illinidiva on February 21, 2013 at 11:35 AM
Why?
Dusty on February 21, 2013 at 11:42 AM
And Marco Rubio hasn’t developed an unpleasant whiny tone recently?
We shall see, but I think Jindal’s record of accomplishments alone would put the rest at odds amongst the electorate IF they bothered to do the research.
DannoJyd on February 21, 2013 at 11:44 AM
No.. Rubio most definitely hasn’t. (See Water Bottle Gate).
As for Jindal’s record, yes it is very good. If you merged Jindal and Rubio, you would have a pretty unbeatable candidate. However, you cannot and Rubio’s political and communication skills are much more important to a modern day campaign than Jindal’s resume. Low information voters don’t research a candidate’s positions; they vote for who they think is “cool.” There are lots of Gen Yers who voted for Obama twice because he was a cool black guy despite the fact that if they understood anything about Social Security, they’d realize how screwed they were. Rubio is the first “cool” Republican candidate we’ve had. Despite being the same age as Rubio, Jindal hasn’t embraced that sort of thing.
Illinidiva on February 21, 2013 at 12:03 PM
LMAO! So your supporting the ‘Cool’ vote? Really!
Please do refresh my memory; When was the last time a Republican Senator who SUPPORTED Illegal Alien Amnesty won the White House?
DannoJyd on February 21, 2013 at 12:16 PM
True, but that’s because he evades substantial criticism of his position and are protected by those who are helping groom him for a run for the presidency. He can’t evade the criticism much longer and he’ll get “whiny” soon enough.
Dusty on February 21, 2013 at 12:22 PM
This is why we lose. Cool is very important.
Last GOP President did support immigration reform. Also, I think that you are going to be upset with Gov. Bobby on this one.
Illinidiva on February 21, 2013 at 12:24 PM
Umm.. Water Bottle gate sort of disproves that.

[Illinidiva on February 21, 2013 at 12:27 PM]
Umm, water bottle drinking is substantial criticism of positions?
You are so invested in your rote assertions you don’t even bother to address points made rebutting them, now.
That’s the big problem the party has, people who don’t bother with logical arguments, but rely on flaccid inanities in an effort to score points.
You know, like giving politicians silly nics.
Dusty on February 21, 2013 at 12:41 PM
Having to deal with unsubstantive trivialness is more difficult than having to deal with substance.
And yes. Nicknames are fun and can be used to taunt politicians. For instance, I use Barry for Obama. It is such a WASP-Y, dorky name and goes against his identity.
Illinidiva on February 21, 2013 at 12:48 PM
The 2016 field is looking more and more like a cranberry bog.

[Illinidiva on February 21, 2013 at 12:48 PM]
No it isn’t. I can’t believe you just said that. You’re just not a serious person.
And mockery and ridicule not only has it’s limits, after a period of time it’s meaningless and ignored as anything worth considering as is the person doing it.
