The problem was the “legitimate” rape, because it implies that if the woman gets pregnant she hasn’t really been raped.

Ken Salazar made the same mistake, but he has the media on his side.

Conservative candidates MUST learn that the media aren’t as tolerant with them as with liberals. On the contrary. The media just wait for conservative blunders.

The reaction of the other Republicans didn’t matter anymore. Akin was toast. The only thing they could do was to try and save their own political lives by getting as far away from him as possible. It’s unfair, but that’s how it is.

He was probably thinking of something along the lines of miscarriages that are caused by stress or anxiety, as many believe to be possible. In this case he used “legitimate” where he meant “actual”. Big whoop.

A “solid conservative voice” who is on video showing her hoo-hah on Girls Gone Wild, or even a RINO with said videoed hoo-hah is not going to just have that crap blow over. Not if there is an (R) beside her name on the ballot. And that candidate’s loss won’t be the Tea Party’s fault, the Establishment’s fault, the Grand Conspiracy Of Closet Leftists Against True Conervatism (TM)’s fault, or even the Easter Bunny’s fault. It is the fault of the candidate for being enough of a moron to participate in such a video, compounded with the idiocy to think nobody was going to figure out it was her.

Same thing with Akin, though I think if Steelman and Brunner had arm wrestled or played “rock paper scissors” with the loser dropping out and endorsing the winner, maybe this whole thing could have been avoided.

I’m sure glad there are people like besser to als rot, and sekhmet, deep diver, etc. on this board. It honestly gives me faith that not everyone who reads this website just follows the right-wing agenda whether or not it’s right or wrong, and whether or not it makes any sense. It’s one thing to support Akin’s policies…it’s another thing to give him a pass on his complete ignorance on female reproduction. Someone earlier used the term “lemmings.” Totally appropriate here.

Irrelevant. Once he was shown to be an imbecile, it was impossible for him to win. There is one person to blame for why we don’t have a solid conservative in the Senate from the great state of Arkansas. And that one person is named Todd Akin. He had two opportunities to make sure a solid conservative made it to the Senate: (1) keep his mouth shut rather than open it and remove all doubt that he is a fool; or (2) once he revealed that he is a fool, get out of the race and let someone run who could win.
