Might Obama’s immigration plan be a decoy?
It’s really not much different from what Rubio’s group is talking about. But Republicans can slam Obama’s plan as some sort of Kenyan-socialist-inspired abdication of sovereignty. They can blast the provisions on border security as laughable. They can describe the absence of a real plan for reforming the legal immigration process as slapdash, or unserious, or whatever they want to call it.
Republicans in the Senate can line up instead behind a bill that Rubio’s Group of Eight eventually produces; even Paul, a tea party favorite, has indicated he could vote for reform as long as he had more than “a promise from President Obama” on border security. And if enough contrast can be drawn between a Senate proposal and Obama’s plan, perhaps even a significant number of House Republicans can be brought along — if not a majority, then enough to convince Speaker John Boehner to allow an up-or-down vote.
In other words, this isn’t so much about what is being proposed. The bigger factor is who’s proposing it…
So if the president really wants immigration reform to pass, one of the most helpful things he could do is put out his own plan as a decoy, to draw Republican fire, while the Senate works toward bipartisan consensus. Which looks suspiciously like what just happened.

It’s easy to over-think things when you are desperately trying to defend a failing cult-of-persnality…

Actually,
Obama is a decoy
too bad Cheney wasn’t available for the duck hunt.who looks presidential but isn’t.All of the dressings and trappings, but nothing else.
Unless, of course, Cloward-Piven….

In this case it’s not over-thinking at all- it’s obvious that giving Rubio and other GOP amnesty-pushers something to posture against, is exactly what Obama is doing.

The Morning Joe crowd just LOVED this line. They thought it was the height of brilliance. Am I missing something?

Oooh, Robinson, is that snide remark a “dog whistle” that is supposed to pass for a thoughtful analysis of Republican (or anyone at all who doesn’t care for the plan) objections? Opposing Obysmal is always to be couched in such terms, eh?

Rubio and the amnesty gang are working for obama – plain and simple.
Amnesty is a loser – no matter whose name is stamped on it, but obama knows that under Rubio’s name, his amnesty plan has a better chance. Rubio is lying to America.

ER’s premise is that Conservative GOPers opposes any bill proposed (in this case indirectly)by Obama…
What ER is ignoring, is that Conservative GOPers oppose any bill that grants amnesty w/out securing the border, period.
ER is too cute by a half.

I figured this was DailyKos or Salon because of the writing style, but it’s the Washington Post. No wonder they are laying off people. Despite the childish tone the writer is correct about Obama’s plan being a decoy.
It’s very disturbing Republicans are going to fall for more promises of border security. Even if they have a rock solid agreement on border security before legal status it still wouldn’t be enough because laws aren’t being enforced on the interior.
Once amnesty goes through it will be ground hog day. There will be more illegal aliens streaming in and deportations won’t take place unless you have a long rap sheet with multiple criminal convictions. We will scream about all the problems and we will be called racist. 20 years from now we will be looking at another round of amnesty.

Is this why Mexico wants a gun registry of all border states – so it can add them to its own registry when it takes over?

The current bunch of Republicans in Congress are for the most part just as much Democrats as Democrats in Congress.

I know this much on this subject – Obama and Rubio are the Tag Team for the Destruction of America.

The GOP is still playing catch up. Everything has to been seen through the prism of Obama’s goal of retaking the House for the Dems. His plan gives Dems a reason to oppose any Senate bipartisan effort, which can then be demagogued at the inevitable immigration rallies where hundreds of thousands will march in the streets denouncing the nativist GOP. A race riot here or there wouldn’t hurt the cause, either. This all starts this summer.

Which just goes to show the truth of the old adage, “Keep [watch] your enemies (Obama) close, but keep [watch] your ‘friends’ (Rubio) closer”.

Has our nation become so screwed up that everything is covert operation?
Obama works with Republicans to deceive Republicans?
News Flash: Most Republicans would be OK with secured borders THEN working on the problem of what to do about 11 million people. They would be especially happy with politicians working in the light of day to address problems and make our country a better place to live instead of jockeying in smoke filled back rooms to keep their jobs.
