So, not only did Stanford renege on his commitment to his wife, but he also reneged on his commitment to serve only 3 terms in Congress. Totally trustworthy.

Sanford.

As we hike along the trail of life, we can count on the God of Second Chances. That’s kind of inspiring, especially to the guys thinking of cheating on their wives.
Washington’s math doesn’t add up. And so for years while many have talked, I’ve done something about it. I’ve cut spending, reduced debt, and made government more accountable… while betraying my wife and abandoning my state. And to prove how accountable I am, I’m looking for you to put me back in public office! More recently, I’ve experienced how none of us go through life without mistakes, or extra-marital affairs in which we destroy our families and subsequently lie our butts off until we’ve been caught, because that is totally a mistake and is no way the result of any deliberate, evil set of actions. I’m Mark Sanford and I approve this message.
I’m having a hard time getting worked up against Sanford when he is probably more conservative than most republicans in congress
I’m sick and tired of sex becoming the only scandal that you must go away forever, I have a far bigger problem with the fact that every congressman gets rich within a few years of being in congress
The odds are he’s going to win his race. Perhaps this is an chance for us to be less judgmental on these issues? The trouble is we do wish to discourage adultery for the sake of strong families. I am not sure what to think, but I do urge anyone condemning him to talk about his children. It will makes us more attractive to the voters.
Why are the backbenches in even solid GOP states so bare?
Rebar on February 18, 2013 at 12:16 PM
Because the GOP has no core. It has no soul. It is a husk of a party just grasping at keeping some power.
It sold out completely under George W Bush and has almost no capability left of reforming itself back into what got it power before, a principled party that will uphold the constitution to the best of its ability.

That is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard. Less judgmental on adulterers? Or liars? Or those in positions of power that abuse taxpayer money and the public trust?
Let the Democrats be the party that is soft on morality and sound judgement.
He’s right, i mean really, let he who hasn’t abandoned his family and job and run away to a foreign country to have an affair with an exotic beauty cast the first stone.

Sanford is probably going to become a GOP congressman elected from a conservative district. Senator Vitter remains Senator from Louisiana. The GOP is already soft on morality as far as adultery goes. I would be fine with changing that. But the change has to come from talking about the children and not telling other people that their arguments are stupid.

That ship sailed when the GOP rallied around David Vitter. There’s no moral high ground there anymore.
Figured a strong upstanding and high-morals conservative like you would defend the slimy adulterer. Your hackery is so easy to predict these days.

Right. Because these are the two posts that I’ve had about Sanford’s candidacy:

Agreed. This is absurd. Probably about as absurd as the GOP nominating a big government statist like Mitt Romney as its presidential candidate. But Rubin didn’t appear to have any problem with that.

I’m sick and tired of sex becoming the only scandal that you must go away forever,
You want me to trust you to represent me, to keep my best interests at heart, to keep your word, and to work for my betterment.
What is your history? You lied to someone violated your marriage vows, broke your word, and cheated for your own benefit even as it hurt those who you had sworn to protect.
…
But I should trust you to work for my best interest not yours, keep your oath and your word, and trust you?
I’m apparently missing something here… why would this argument work for anyone?
Blowback
