McCain: I expect bipartisan support in the Senate for universal background checks
The Arizona Republican pointed to a plan being drafted by Sens. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) that is expected to focus chiefly on overhauling background checks to ensure all prospective owners’ histories are vetted. That proposal is expected to be unveiled in the coming days.
“I think most of us will be able to support” that plan, McCain said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

So it’s constitutional to require background checks (just to see you are who you say you are and you don’t have a criminal record) for a constitutional right, but ask for a drivers license to verify identity for voting? RACIST!!!!!!!

You want a national registry of gun owners too, Mav, because that’s where it leads.
Keep the fed gubmint OUT of it.

Does this mean a federal data base ?

Juan “Amnesty Shake” McCain…*sigh*

LIB. And McVain is leading the charge on every front. His name among others will go down in history as traitors to the constitution. Mudd is thy name.
AH_C on February 17, 2013 at 1:52 PM
Yeah, because I REALLY need to hear from the ringleader of the Republican Party’s My Friends Wimpy Weepy RINOs.
Hey, McCant, good to know you don’t give a rat’s fart about the 2nd Amendment after what you did to the 1st a decade ago.
Myron Falwell on February 17, 2013 at 1:52 PM
So you’ll put that in a “comprehensive” bill? Or are you actually going to do incremental bills? Yes, I thought so.
This is the usual sop to conservatives that you RINOs are
“serious” about enforcement, along with “increased funding for border security”.

And the GOP wonders why they lost by nominating this guy?
Socratease on February 17, 2013 at 1:56 PM
Yep. Because local, private sales will now have to be vetted through someone with a FFL who, in turn, will have to report it to the feds or lose his license. Very neat. Once they have someone to penalize for noncompliance, they’ve got all the pieces in place. Please thank John McCain again for all he does for this country.

Dear God, our republic is almost at an end.
BigGator5 on February 17, 2013 at 2:05 PM
So mccain, HOW in God’s green earth are you gonna get the criminals to give information to buy guns/ammo on their ‘background check’?

I expect you to eat my a$$, sir.
RovesChins on February 17, 2013 at 2:13 PM
^ I should have added, the criminals STEAL guns or get them from other criminals and they don’t require ‘background checks’!

Oops. Hard to keep McCain’s RINO opinions on guns and illegal aliens straight.
Wethal on February 17, 2013 at 2:21 PM
Because gang members are now going to go to firearms dealers to vet their fellow gang members.
rbj on February 17, 2013 at 2:23 PM
I believe background checks, bank records, and tax returns should be printed in public before anyone should be permitted to write for a newspaper or work as a reporter/pundit/anchor on television news.
Gander, meet goose.
DRayRaven on February 17, 2013 at 2:28 PM
It’s a RINO stampede in the Capital.

‘Universal background checks’ are the first step toward obama’s national registration and gun confiscation plans. It is no surprise that “progressive” Republicans like McCain are chomping at the bit to side with obama, yet AGAIN.
Every day we are reminded that there is virtually no difference between establishment Republicans and democrats.

I think most people would support letting Washington DC burn but let’s try to save as much of the rest of the country as possible.
FloatingRock on February 17, 2013 at 2:42 PM
Nice to know McCain thinks Constitutional rights are a matter of which ones have public support. Why, he almost sounds like a liberal when he talks like that.
Socratease on February 17, 2013 at 2:57 PM
Hey McCain… I expect you to sit and spin.

If you demand ID for voting, I don’t see how you justify no ID for gun purchase.
Can.I.be.in.the.middle on February 17, 2013 at 3:25 PM
I’ll trade you background checks for guns in all 50 states, for Voter ID in 50 states.
If you can check one, you can check the other.
Moesart on February 17, 2013 at 3:30 PM
Sorry, I don’t find that in the Second Amendment.
D-fusit on February 17, 2013 at 3:33 PM
McCain deserves everything said here but don’t forget Coburn is part of this too.
jnelchef on February 17, 2013 at 3:44 PM
Even though it’s not written yet. But just trust us.
“We’ll have to pass this background check scheme in order to see what’s in it.”
