China getting pretty tired of North Korea’s crap
Among Chinese officials, the mood toward the young North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, has darkened. The Chinese government is reported by analysts to be wrestling with what to do about a man who, in power for a little more than a year, thumbed his nose at China by ignoring its appeals not to conduct the country’s third nuclear test, and who shows no gratitude for China’s largess as the main supplier of oil and food.
“The public does not want China to be the only friend of an evil regime, and we’re not even recognized by North Korea as a friend,” said Jin Qiangyi, director of the Center for North and South Korea Studies at Yanbian University in Yanji City. “For the first time the Chinese government has felt the pressure of public opinion not to be too friendly with North Korea.”…
If China decides to go along with the United States’ calls for much more stringent sanctions than exist now, there are fears among China’s policy makers that the North’s government would collapse, possibly setting the stage for mayhem on the border and a reunification of Korea as an American ally. But if China maintains the status quo, it could face mounting criticism among its own citizens.
If it decided to take a harder stance, China could punish North Korea by curtailing its oil shipments, by far the major source of fuel in the energy-starved North, Mr. Jin said.

Ugh, just sign a deal with the Chinese and give them North Korea as a SAR.

LOL. The Norks are China’s attack chi-hua-hua against the West. China is fully responsible for the Norks getting to where they are.

Of course they’re unhappy… the Nork’s antics are giving South Korea and Japan every reason to reconsider their defense policies, and igniting a nuclear arms race.
China likes being the only (major) nuclear power in the eastern Pacific Rim region… a nuked-up Japan is their worst nightmare.
(Even so, the Nork’s are still the PRC’s cats-paw for the spread of techno-nasties. If they truly wanted to rein in the Norks, they could do it in record time. The big question mark are the Russians, who, in their own way, have significant influence over the Norks… and have yet to seriously weigh in on the matter.)

North Korea is China’s baby. The baby has become a nightmare for China. Now deal with it.

This could be handled in week. Obama could announce talks with Japan about becoming a nuclear power. China would see to it that Kim falls victim to a fatal dose of lead poisoning. Disposition of N. Korea could be quietly worked out.
Of course, This would require the prez to take a pro-active move in foreign policy…
What was I thinking?

If Buh-rock pulls another stunt like he did in 2009 (leaving the massive X-band radar system in port at Pearl, during a No Dong test), I suspect the Japanese will find themselves increasingly tempted to rethink that whole pacifism thingy.
When – not if – that happens and Japan starts producing nuclear warheads, China, South Korea, and Russia will collectively sh*t themselves. It’ll be a nuclear arms race that brings back the fun times of 1961.
Oh, boy…!!!

Call me when they actually do something .

Unless this is based on reliable spies inside Red China, this is just speculation. I suspect that it’s more likely they get together with the Norkies and high-five each other every time a nuclear test goes off, or a South Korean ship is sunk, or a cargo ship filled with food from the West pulls into harbor.
North Korea is to Red China like a mean Pit Bull is to a gang-banger.

There you go.

Anyone really believe that? I don’t. China loves having NK constantly tweek and annoy the US, SK, and Japan. what’s the downside for them? They can squash NK anytime they want if the lunatic running it gets out of control and might cause them any real substantive damage.

China could crush North Korea like a bug, so North Korea does nothing of any major importance that is not OK with China.

Not a nightmare, a dream carrying out China’s wishes.
