Video: NBC reporter stops poop-cruise passenger from quoting the Bible
As stranded Carnival Cruise passengers began finally disembarking in Mobile, Alabama, late Thursday evening, MSNBC had NBC News correspondent Mark Potter on the scene to speak with them.
One young lady during her over three minute interview tried to cite a Bible verse that helped her get through the ordeal, but Potter pulled his microphone away and quickly ended the discussion…
Here’s the verse Potter refused to let Jenkins say on air:
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

Blowback

No surprise there.
Quoting the Bible to an MSNBC reporter is like sunlight to a vampire.

Lucky he stopped her in time! He might have disintegrated into a pile of hissing cockroaches.
stefanite on February 16, 2013 at 8:20 AM
Pretty sure I would stop paying attention too if someone was talking gibberish to me.
ebrawer on February 16, 2013 at 8:24 AM
…I’m talking old school vampires.
Do the blood-suckers in the Twilight films come out during the day?
itsnotaboutme on February 16, 2013 at 8:26 AM
Well in fairness to the reporter…
No I just can’t do it.
forest on February 16, 2013 at 8:28 AM
Most folks use modern translations nowadays. I kinda doubt that young lady would be reading a 17th century version.
Here’s the New American Standard:
itsnotaboutme on February 16, 2013 at 8:29 AM
Were you saying something?
sharrukin on February 16, 2013 at 8:30 AM
I’m sad that you feel that way.
I once felt that way. *shudder*
itsnotaboutme on February 16, 2013 at 8:33 AM
I dunno…as much as I despise real liberal bias in most of the media…after a couple of replays I’m not convinced Potter intentionally cut her off from quoting scripture. He’s been in the biz for a long time, and has even traveled with the pope. Seems more likely he was buzzed in his ear to wrap it up.
JetBoy on February 16, 2013 at 8:34 AM
The NBC reporter did the legally necessary thing. The First Amendment guarantees an enforced separation of church and state. Since NBC News is the propaganda arm of the State, they are constitutionally required to stop people quoting the Bible on their network.
/sarcasm

We need to keep God out of schools and out of our Poop Cruisers.
CorporatePiggy on February 16, 2013 at 8:44 AM
I know, its hard to take people quoting ancient poetry novels seriously.
SauerKraut537 on February 16, 2013 at 8:47 AM
Why the sarc tag, you had it right the first time.
and
It’s also hard to take people seriously who have a hatred for the founding text of their civilizational paradigm. Plato’s Republic and the Bible, whether taken literally or not, are still literally the foundation of all Western thought and to dismiss such works lightly says moore about your own intellect than that of others. That some can’t handle their inherited culture without falling into superstition is NO EXCUSE to jettison one’s inherited culture – and if so, then why bother calling oneself conservative or wasting time in the company of such.

If they had let the passenger make comparisons to Katrina, he would have let them talk as long as they want.
vcferlita on February 16, 2013 at 9:06 AM
I heard that mean ole Bush did a flyover of the ship dead at sea just to mock them but Obama plugged the hole.
Fallon on February 16, 2013 at 9:14 AM
Yeah, I debated that myself, actually, before posting. Ah, well.
And if she had brought up global warming while relating her experience, NBC would have bestowed Absolute Moral Authority upon her, and she would be making the rounds on talk shows.
JimLennon on February 16, 2013 at 9:15 AM
Huh? She was quoting The Iliad? I missed that part.

You are aware that the Koran exists and that it claims to be the perfect word of the creator of the universe? You are aware that once having heard this possibility and rejecting it that you’re going to hell for eternity.
What is Muslims are right, what if Islam is true? Think about it a minute… We have been born in the wrong place to the wrong parents, given the wrong culture, spoonfed the wrong theology. Needless to say, you are doomed and have been thoroughly misled by Christianity and I’m in the same boat and have been thoroughly misled by science. We are both going to hell if this vision of life is true… I want you to stop and appreciate what a bad position both of us are in if Islam is true.
Where is Allah’s compassion? And yet he’s supposedly omnipotent, he COULD fix this, he could change this in an instant, he could give us all a sign that he’s the one true god… And yet he’s not going to do it… And hell awaits, and hell awaits our children because we can’t help but mislead our children.
Now just hold this vision in mind… And first appreciate how little sleep you have lost over this possibility.
Just feel in this moment how carefree you are, and will continue to be in the face of this possibility.
What are the chances that we are all going to go to hell for eternity because we haven’t recognized the Koran to be the perfect word of the creator of the universe?
Please know that this is exactly how Christianity appears to someone who’s not been indoctrinated in it or someone who was but now see’s it for the fairy tale that it is.
SauerKraut537 on February 16, 2013 at 9:28 AM
I’m not a religious person either, but I’ve never felt the need to be a bigoted jerk toward those who are. What the hell is wrong with you?
RadClown on February 16, 2013 at 9:34 AM
So in your wisdom you took it upon yourself to ridicule and criticize those who believe, people who have done you no harm and seek only to have a faith that you lost.
Somehow I doubt you would have the seeds to tell those Christian missionaries out there serving in the world’s shiitholes that their beliefs are crap.
Bishop on February 16, 2013 at 9:35 AM
Don’t you ridicule Muslims and Hindus and people of other religions scoffing at their faiths by rejecting their faiths and pushing another faith as the one true word of god? Don’t get self righteous with me Bishop.
I had the nerve to tell my Lutheran minister uncle that I was no longer a believer and that he was mistaken in his beliefs, so your suggestion that I wouldn’t have the “seeds” to tell Christian missionaries that their beliefs are crap is specious.
SauerKraut537 on February 16, 2013 at 9:46 AM
First off, stop emoting – it’s unbecoming of a man. Secondly learn to grasp the full implications of another’s argument. I’m not a Christian in any orthodox sense of the word and wasn’t defending any particular denomination or even the faith in general. I was simply making a case for the continuity of Western Civilization’s operative paradigm – is: CONSERVATISM -(lol) not too bright are you, son?
Lastly, I stand by my principals even in the case of Islam. If it’s adherents cannot handle their inherited culture without descending into superstition -then that’s their problem as a people, it does nothing to indict conservative principals in general or their application in America in particular. I would also mention in addition that I happen to know real-life Muslim Americans. Many (especially in OC & NV) are conservative GOP voters and wether you want them in the tent or not doesn’t change the fact that they are as capable as anyone else of handling their civilizational paradigm in a rational manner and contributing to the continuity of family values in America.

And yet you get up every day and follow a moral code that prevents you from doing what you know to be wrong in favor of what you know to be right -presumably. Correct?
Where did that moral code come from?

HA!

The job of a reporter is to report, not make judgements as to the veracity or political correctness of those beliefs which sustain the people who go through life’s traumas. When they start judging and deleting and editing, you don’t have reporting, you have propaganda.
Bulletchaser on February 16, 2013 at 10:06 AM
But Fox let another passenger expand on the verses that comforted them. Interesting.
Cindy Munford on February 16, 2013 at 10:09 AM
Especially when it comes to the removal of body arts from their daughters or the applied application of Semtex.
Bulletchaser on February 16, 2013 at 10:09 AM
There are many atheists who are respectful of Christianity who post on the forums. Interesting that there are two or three others who just come to posts that discuss the Bible and Christianity to troll.
Here’s a thought for you all: God loves you anyway and wants to meet you.

I’m of the same mind. He wasn’t mean about it and he did let her repeat the Scripture reference as she was walking off, so, in a way, she did get it out there.
ExpressoBold on February 16, 2013 at 10:15 AM
Don’t ridicule Headhunters and Voodoo believers by rejecting their faiths and pushing another faith as the one true word of God. Don’t tell me I’m wrong because I jump up and down and hold my breath till I turn blue. Na Na Na!
I was so brave I told a man who loved me that he was a deluded fool, so I have the manhood to tell those who have firmer beliefs than me that their beliefs are crap is specious.
There fixed it for you. Just from reading this, I can see that when a Muslim held a sword to your throat, you would be an instant convert. Embarrassingly unmanly is the expression I would use for you.
Bulletchaser on February 16, 2013 at 10:18 AM
You may be right on. It does come of similar to other instances that happen all the time. I assumes as well they did not cut out the part in which she invites the viewers to read the quote.
CW on February 16, 2013 at 10:19 AM
No doubt there.

Distinguishing between what we perceive to be right or wrong is the role of conscience, which is mostly emotional yet based on the intellectual, and such distinctions cannot always be put into words.
SauerKraut537 on February 16, 2013 at 10:20 AM
I rarely see you on Hotair …well except on the Christian related threads. Do you have any other interests rather than trying to mock others to deal with your inferiority complex?
Pathetic…

God Bless you all

LOL! No you didn’t.
SauerKraut537 on February 16, 2013 at 10:27 AM
No, I don’t, as long as they aren’t trying to harm me or mine.
Bishop on February 16, 2013 at 10:27 AM
Alright, I will amend. I doubt you would have the seeds to serve where those people serve and who do so because of their faith. You scoff at their “fairy tales” yet they are willing to devote their lives to others because of it.
I know I know, deluded jerkwads is what they are.
Bishop on February 16, 2013 at 10:30 AM
How magnanimous of you… To each his own delusion, except when they conflict?
SauerKraut537 on February 16, 2013 at 10:31 AM
What conflict is that?
Bishop on February 16, 2013 at 10:38 AM
Turn on the brain juice… you’ll figure it out.
SauerKraut537 on February 16, 2013 at 10:41 AM
It’s early here, brain juice is flowing slowly. You could just say what you mean or you can dance around like Mayor Rahm, your choice.

Way to rock HA over your issues with the religiosity of your family.
