Russian nuclear bombers intercepted near Guam
U.S. military officials tell NBC News that two Russian bombers, capable of carrying nuclear cruise missiles, circled the U.S. island of Guam in the Western Pacific this week. U.S. Air Force F-15 jets scrambled from Andersen Air Force Base on Guam to intercept the bombers.
According to one military official, the Russian Bear bombers remained in international airspace, the encounter between the U.S. and Russian aircraft “stayed professional” and there was no incident. The official said it’s impossible to determine whether the Russian bombers carried any nuclear weapons. …
U.S. military officials say “it’s highly unusual but not unprecedented” that Russian bombers would fly training missions in the vicinity of Guam.

Why would they go after Guam? Don’t they know it could capsize at any minute?

Putin would prefer it. Hard to play the underdog when your opponent is a blubbering weakling.

During the SOTU yawn fest… nice timing, Russian Bears!

No big deal, this happens quite often. Me thinks this is just NBC setting the table on looming defense cuts in order to blame the GOP.

Heck, 25 years ago we would have been up there “persuading” them to alter course, taking pictures the whole time.

Wait!
I thought we won the cold war.
I thought the Russians were disarmed.
I thought there was a peace dividend.
I thought the Russians are our nest friends now.

No, Russians are feeling their oats, probably because Obama is behaving like a weakling. They were harassing Japan with flyovers of the disputed Kuril Islands (separate from the disputed Senkaku Islands with China) earlier last week.

Whatever…..the Russians/Soviets have flown this type of profile for the last 50 years using the 50 year old TU-95. I remember F-102 & 106 scrambles from Otis AFB back in the 60′s intercepting the bears as they lumbered to Cuba. Of far more concern was the Chicom sub surfacing next to a Carrier battle group a year or so ago.

overconvidence is the downfall of most empires. America is weak ATM. Instead of rebuilding and rearming our military at this time in history when we need to project strength we are falling into the disrepair

The Russians are good at giving weak US Presidents the finger and poking them in the eye. They enjoy doing it. And they know a weak President when they see one. Dear Leader practically hung a kick me sign on himself when he told Putin he would have more “flexibility” after his re-election.

The Russians have more flexibility after our last election.

Honestly I would not get to freaked out over this. It happened in the cold war all the time. Look at it as a sort of training mission for the Russians and us. They fly their bombers out to Guam, we scramble our fighters and everyone gets a little training. It is not a personal insult, it is just the Russians being Russians….
For those to young to remember, here is the Russian Bear
The Tupolev Tu-95 is sort of like a Cold War educational program for young American pilots.
