Pelosi: Congressional pay cut undermines dignity of the job
“I don’t think we should do it; I think we should respect the work we do,” Pelosi told reporters in the Capitol. “I think it’s necessary for us to have the dignity of the job that we have rewarded.”
The comments were made in the context of the looming sequester, which would force across-the-board cuts affecting most federal offices, including Congress. With lawmakers nowhere near a deal to avert those cuts, federal agencies are bracing for ways to absorb them with minimum damage to programs and personnel.
Pelosi, whose husband is a wealthy real-estate developer, was quick to note that a cut in her own pay would be far less significant than that for both staffers and less wealthy members of Congress.

Cute. Pelosi thinks she has dignity. LOL!

Dignity? How many of you people are criminals, how many are grifters, how many are stupid, and how many are stone-cold retards who think an island can actually tip over?
Why does a nation of 300 million have to “cut back” but you royalty shouldn’t suffer the loss of a single thin dime?
Bishop on February 15, 2013 at 1:05 PM
Hey, Pelosi, just lay them off and put them on unemployment. According to you, that’s a real boon to the economy.
Bitter Clinger on February 15, 2013 at 1:05 PM
Dignity of the job.
What a farce.
Our founding fathers would be so ashamed knowing they didn’t put in some kind of mechanism to keep people like Pelosi in check.
ButterflyDragon on February 15, 2013 at 1:07 PM
Nancy Pelosi undermines the dignity of being a Congresscritter.
rbj on February 15, 2013 at 1:08 PM
Ummm…I bet she makes a lot more than I do, and I think what I do is way more important than what she does.
Bob's Kid on February 15, 2013 at 1:08 PM
Oh brother, that old harpy is trying to tell us she has ‘dignity’? That old harpy nan has more money than she probably count from seeing to it she uses her ‘dignity’ giving taxpayers money to hubby/businesses that fund her.
Shut your lying face nan, there isn’t one ounce of ‘dignity’ in your old botox brain!

Dignified? If I could urinate on these people from the rafters of the Capitol Building, I would.

Impugns the dignity of Congress.
More than deem and pass?
More than “We have to pass it, to find out what’s in it.”?

So sayeth the stretch, who has a net worth of $35.5 million dollars.
Luv, you cannot lose what you never had.

I wouldn’t. Might accidentally hit Allen West, or Ann Marie Buerkle or something.
Wait… nevermind. Have at it. I’ve got to go around town with a big bottle of water and find some Maffei voters.
Gingotts on February 15, 2013 at 1:17 PM
Double their pay and then pay them the percentage of their salary that matches the percentage of their public popularity.
BL@KBIRD on February 15, 2013 at 1:17 PM
Remember this quote when people are clamoring for Congress to lower its pay : you can put a face to this issue; a Democrat face.

Dignity has long since left the building.

Pelosi’s remark is a syntactically inept word salad. “The job that we have rewarded”? Try again, Ms. Intellectual.

Let me fix that headline.
Pelosi: Congressional and Senate

Every statement this arrogant bubble-head makes is more stupid and clueless than the last. Next she’ll be asking for a crown and a scepter.
RadClown on February 15, 2013 at 1:27 PM
And force them to be honest on their time sheets.
They’d get about $18 per week, if they have a busy week.
The Rogue Tomato on February 15, 2013 at 1:28 PM
Heck, the woman can’t even read (a bill before she passes it.)
I’d say back to minimum wage, or lower. They should PAY for the privilege of not doing their jobs.

I think their behavior undermines the dignity of the job.
Othniel on February 15, 2013 at 1:33 PM
Doctors, lawyers and most other professionals can be sued when their “Work” damages their patient or client. Congress has long since exempted themselves from this threat. Those who currently inhabit congress are a case study in why this exemption on elected officials should be rescinded.

Priceless, especially as her salary is only about 20% of what she spends as petty cash personally.
CorporatePiggy on February 15, 2013 at 1:41 PM
wtf!!! liberals demonize the rich all the time and want to raise their taxes (even though they already pay a lot). now they don’t want to give up some of their own money?! the hypocrisy is amazing!
Sachiko on February 15, 2013 at 1:43 PM
This word “dignity”…I do not think it means what she thinks it means.
Meredith on February 15, 2013 at 1:50 PM
Dignity? Dignity?!? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I’ve got a policy proposal; I don’t see any flaws in it.
1) We leave the salary as it is, as a base salary.
2) We leave the legislation and regulations as they are for “insider” trading for members of Congress.
3) We reduce the salary paid to any member of congress based on their investment returns above and beyond the average return for the nation on the assumption this is likely due to insider trading of one form or another.
Oh, we just quit paying any member of congress anything at all? Perfect. And we didn’t touch their salary; they’re just taking their wages in perks instead of a straight salary payment. They have their “dignity” intact as crooks and thieves robbing the nation; and we don’t have to pay them extra.
They’re going to be cheating crooks regardless what we do; we don’t need to pay them a salary on top of that. If one of them happens not to be a cheating crook, we can pay that person’s salary without difficulty given the rarity I’d expect for that situation to arise.

Pelosi’s caucus has all the dignity of a clown posse.

Put congress on commission and pay them 1% of everything they REALLY cut. The budget would shrivel up faster than Nancy’s face without Botox.

I agree. But you’re showing your roots.

Not sure what language she’s speaking, but that sentence makes absolutely no sense whatsoever in the English language. If he’d said “I think it’s flummery for us to yoke the noses of the yerts we have spiggled” it’d make as much sense as what she said.

She’s right. What we should do is separate the millionaires in Congress and stop paying them altogether. After all, that’s what she’s trying to do in society at large.
njrob on February 15, 2013 at 2:47 PM
Makes one miss the mindset of days wherein the dignity of the job meant a gentlemanly/ladylike refusal to take pay.
This dignity shouldn’t extend just to Congress either. Obama should consider the footsteps of
Herbert HooverBobby Jones in the 30s who showed respect for this nation bynot taking a salary as President.not accepting money playing golf.Gingotts on February 15, 2013 at 3:16 PM
Are you kidding? Some of the worst Congresscritters are the most popular.
onlineanalyst on February 15, 2013 at 3:36 PM
In a press conference, Boehner (or an articulate Republican representative with ‘nads)should respond to Pelosi’s absurd claims about the sequester point by point and make a mockery of her charges. He should then explain what the sequester actually is. Get out in front of those cameras and microphones, you dimwits.
onlineanalyst on February 15, 2013 at 3:41 PM
She’s right. Congressional pay does undermine the dignity of the job. It’s cheap, tacky and in bad taste to pay members of Congress to screw up the country as they insist on doing. Since most of them are lawyers, perhaps they can get their yearly quota of pro bono work by legislating for free. That would enhance the dignity of the position.
totherightofthem on February 15, 2013 at 3:50 PM
Let’s meet her half way. There should be a 50% tax on all Congressional pay, because, like the rich, all of their gains are ill-gotten — right?
