In defense of Christine O’Donnell
Delaware elected Chris Coons — not Christine O’Donnell — to the U.S. Senate in 2010.
Good.
Mike Castle was a leftist’s dream. He was a big-spending, George-Soros-funded, NARAL-approved politician who never met an earmark he didn’t like. Electing him as a Republican weakened the party. In every policy debate that matters, Mike Castle and others like him side with the left. For this, they are rewarded by the media and described as moderate.
In reality, moderates like Mike Castle are guarantors of conservative defeat. Political debate always ends in compromise. If Castle is “moderate,” then why should anyone entertain proposals from the far right? In every debate, the question is not whether conservatives win, but how much we lose. If America wants to vote itself socialist, that’s fine, but, at the moment, we’re not giving it a choice. With either party, we’re just taking baby steps toward statism and ruin.

Karl Rove is not amused.

Mike Castle must have voted for ObamaCare and I was misled. I thought it passed with no Republican Senate votes. Yeah, don’t matter who’s there. Coons? Good.

Imagine that…spin from a former press secretary..

Well said.

Whether one likes O’Donnell or not the unnecessary fiasco created and maintained by Karl Rove was another indicator of his treachery.

Yates, the only guarantee of defeat is employing you…

O’Donnell had (has) a lot to offer – she is a good person … which is why bullies from across the political spectrum worked to destroy her.

SPOT THE F*CK ON!!
I don’t give two sh*ts how many times she declared bankruptcy or who all she slept with – all I care is about having a warm body in a seat who votes reliably conservative.
Had CoD been elected – she would have voted correctly this week to filibuster Hagel.
Mike Castle would not have.
This whole strategy of electing moderates in difficult seats has produced nothing but a steady march toward the left for 50 years. You will not … not … not reverse that march by continuing the present strategy and you can bank that sh*t.

Why are we still having this argument?
abobo on February 15, 2013 at 11:08 PM
Yeah, rite. Whatever. Gotta justify the stupidity I suppose. I suppose a book justifying Angle and Akin, etc. will be next.

Is it better to lose?

Well you do recall that whole stream of ethics complaints, that came to bupkis, right, was there any apology here, not to my recollection,

How does one explain the scintillating combination of Thompson, Mack, and Allen,

No one better wanted to run?
alchemist19 on February 15, 2013 at 11:34 PM
No, the establishment forced the former Bush cabinet officer, in Wisconsin, squandering the momentum of the Walker victory over the recall, they did the same for Allen, who is uninspiring to say the least, Angle was Rove’s client, at least for the last month.
narciso on February 15, 2013 at 11:42 PM
Two things.
1. Republicans in all races were tainted by extremists like Akin and Mourdock, whose views on rape and abortion were based on bad science and theology.
2. Mack was always the underdog in Florida. Allen and Thompson were both tainted by racism. Allen had his Macaca moment in 2006. Thompson’s son made a birther joke.

I’m not Team Castle, and I’m certainly not Team O’Donnell. I’m Team Couldn’t-They-Both-Lose-The-Primary-In-Favor-Of-Someone-Both-Conservative-AND-FRAKKING-ELECTABLE???
Bill Maher didn’t find those witch tapes going through his sock drawer in 2010. There is always something held back on a Sacrificial Lamb candidate, in case the Mighty Incumbent gets caught in bed with an underage midget tranny hooker. If the Tea Party, feeling its oats after getting Rubio, had truly looked at the Delaware race, they would have either found a way to run someone better than both Castle AND O’Donnell, or spent the money and energy somewhere more productive.
Sekhmet on February 16, 2013 at 12:09 AM
Yep, no doubt he would not have been the second “when history calls” crap right after Snowe. With his prior history what makes you think he would have effed us much less than Coons? Oh I’m sorry, he would have talked nice first.
arnold ziffel on February 16, 2013 at 12:12 AM
So, when did Mike Castle join the Democrats in a fit of butthurt like Oompa Loompa Crist did?—-oh, that’s right, he didn’t. Trying to turn Mike Castle into Jim Jeffords did not make Christine O’Donnell into Ronald Reagan.
And Castle was certainly no Reagan—but he would have been a damn sight better than Coons. Better yet would have been to have had a plan for Delaware to where someone both conservative and electable could have beat them both, then beaten Coons.
But do double down, y’all.
Sekhmet on February 16, 2013 at 12:21 AM
Maybe Republicans should embrace Hagel. He is one of their own.
aryeung on February 16, 2013 at 12:50 AM
Castle may have been a “leftist’s dream” (that’s all relative, though, isn’t it?), but he represented the political leanings of the people of Delaware who voted him into office.
Delaware is not a red state. What gives TruCons the right to grouse that the state’s representatives don’t check all their rightwing conservative boxes?
The same nonsense was spouted about Scott Brown. He was elected in MA, for crying out loud. Do you conservative crazies not understand that blue states are not going to vote for conservative crazies?
It makes no sense for the Republicans to aspire to such ideological purity that they tolerate the Christine O’Donnells and Sharron Angles of the world. It’s the road to political oblivion.
If that’s the “quality” of candidate the TruCons are comfortable with, then let them form their own party.

Castle, who was so open minded that he entertained that idiot Bush impeachment petition, who voted for cap n trade, who along with Rove, had a temper tantrum, after the primary, and then voted for the Disclose Act, (showing he cares nothing about the 1st Amendment,
the Dream Act (showing he cares nothing about border enforcement)
and New Start, ditto for our defense posture, Now mind you, this is the state that elected Biden six times, so the expectations were low, to begin with,

Why don’t you get involved and find out for yourself? Since when is it the other guys job to make you happy?
America always gets the government it deserves and bench warming whiners win nothing for anyone.

Who agreed to allow the vote on OCare before Christmas?
Oh yeah.
McConnell, the BlueBlood Republican Establishment Stalwart.
fossten on February 16, 2013 at 7:06 AM
You mean, the ones who voted AGAINST him in the primary?
Thanks for always showing your true colors here. Your overlord Obama smiles at your efforts.

She couldn’t handle her own personal affairs or her own checkbook…so how could she be trusted with millions in taxpayer $$$ to manage?
Sorry…character still counts for quite a lot, even more so for conservatives. I don’t want a mindless voting machine . COD had none. She ended up being a total embarrassment. There’s no love lost there.
JetBoy on February 16, 2013 at 8:51 AM
Well at least others are starting to understand. electing “moderate liberal republicians” does nothing but ensure the dems win on policy issue after policy issue.
I’m agree with what demint said I would rather have 40 solid conservative senators than 51 conservative/moderate mix in the senate. 40 conservative senators means the liberal policies and programs get stopped cold. 51 moderate mix means that the liberal program continues apace.

Can you say Senator Coons? How’s that working for you? the dems now have a mindless voting machine in Coons. He will vote yes for every dem bill policy and program. He will vote yes for everything Obama wants. COD would have voted for the conservative polices, positions and concerns. I don’t care about checkbooks or personal affairs as long as the person isn’t a hypocrite. COD’s character matched her ideology and her beliefs. unlike say Coryn I doubt COD would have said one thing and done another if she got elected.
unseen on February 16, 2013 at 10:13 AM
You don’t see COD as a hypocrite? Anyone who champions the conservative cause should be able to live by it. And just because Coons is a left-wing robot doesn’t mean a GOPer should be…I thought we were better than that.
JetBoy on February 16, 2013 at 10:32 AM

Ironic, that.
