A precarious moment to raise the minimum wage
Obama’s proposed minimum wage would be higher than all but one state (Washington), meaning it could have a particularly disruptive impact because it wouldn’t take into account the differences among local labor markets.
If unemployment were quite low, the economy were expanding rapidly, and employers were having trouble finding workers, then an increase in the minimum wage might not do as much damage. But this is less likely under current circumstances, with the economy growing slowly and unemployment at 7.9 percent.
Also, next year, the major provisions of the national health care law will be implemented. Already, fast-food and chain restaurants have been announcing plans to cut back worker hours to avoid the federal penalty for not providing government-approved health insurance. To them, an increase in the minimum wage on top of the health care mandate would be another incentive to cut back on their workforce.

Every policy decision made by the Obama White House is purposefully designed to inflict maximum damage upon the American economy, and therefore the American Republic.
It’s not that they’re ignorant or stupid, they’re evil bastards who are doing this with full malice aforethought.

A better idea is to eliminate the minimum wage and get the government out of the way. The free market will control wages…no government is needed.

The minimum wage is immoral. It creates unemployment. It disproportionately impacts the uneducated, the young, and the poor. These are the very people that Obama pretends to want to help.
He is either too stupid to know this (but then again so is your average economist that shows up on CNBC) or too ingrained in his ideology to care to understand it, or both.

Full time employment, probably with multiple employers, at that rate would exceed 150% of poverty level for individuals with no dependents. They would no longer be eligible for expanded medicaid and would have to pay for obamacare premiums or the tax for not having insurance.
Why is Obama trying to raise taxes on the poor?

Another straw on businesses’ back, along with obamacare. If this doesn’t break the free enterprise system, they’ll come up with another PC punishment. Can’t wait to see what the black teen employment rate looks like in a few months.

^This. If only media would report it that way, we might have a chance to survive.

Are they really thinking? Obama, Reid, Pelosi et. al, talk in these glorious platitudes with no thought for the ramifications for their ideas if implemented. I mean, are they really that smart? They are appealing to a low information based and don’t reveal the truth of anything until it smacks reality. Case in point – the sequester is coming and the Senate hasn’t produced a budget. These folks can’t be thinking at all – their entire platform is based on emotion.
